Now, according to MMAMania, Conor McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, has revealed that both parties are looking to negotiate a fight weight of 147 pounds.

This of course will likely surprise MMA fans given that after winning the UFC featherweight title in 2015, Conor McGregor vacated the 145 pound title after winning the lightweight title. With that being said, in addition to not having fought under 155 pounds in nearly two years, it’s no secret that McGregor’s weight cut to featherweight was a rather difficult one for the Irishman.

This news comes at the same time news surfaced from UFC President Dana White that he feels obligated to book a fight between McGregor & Mayweather given McGregor’s willingness to step up and fight opponents on short notice, rather than simply also backing out of the fight an leaving the UFC without a marquee fight.

“This kid steps up. He’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. A lot of people say it, very few really mean it. Conor McGregor, I call him the unicorn. I’ve never dealt with a kid like this,” White explained when speaking to “The Herd” on Wednesday.

“So for him to have this kind of opportunity, to make this kind of money, this type of a fight that people are so interested in worldwide, I almost feel like I have to make it.”

Only time will tell if this fight is made official, and how McGregor will not only handle fighting undefeated prizefighter Floyd Mayweather, but also a potential cut to 147 pounds depending on how negotiations go in the coming weeks.
