These days, combat sports headlines are being dominated by the possibility of a mega fight between semi-retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. It seems that new details about this potential showdown emerge every day.

One of latest twists in this very mercurial story occurred when Manny Pacquiao, another great of the boxing world, suggested that he would be willing to welcome McGregor to the boxing ring if Mayweather couldn’t be convinced. During his recent pay-per-view interview with Ariel Helwani, McGregor then admitted that he would consider this fight as a backup plan.

Whether its Mayweather or Pacquiao that welcomes McGregor to the boxing ring, however, it’s unlikely that many educated fans would give the Irishman much of a chance. Though he would almost certainly maul both men in the mixed martial arts arena, he’s likely to have a very difficult time beating these boxers at their own sport.

At least, that’s the opinion of UFC Hall-of-Famer and MMA legend Tito Ortiz. In a recent interview with TMZ, Ortiz was asked how he thought McGregor would fare against Mayweather and Pacquiao. Though he admitted he’d rather see McGregor fight the latter of the two, he said he gives the Irishman little chance against either.

“I would say McGregor-Pacquiao,” he said, when asked which fight he’d prefer.

“McGregor has no chance with either one of those guys,” he continued. “That’s like comparing chess to checkers, apples to oranges. It ain’t happening.”

When we last saw McGregor in the cage, he defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title. At the moment, he’s taking a break from the sport to father his first child with long-time girlfriend Dee Devlin.

Ortiz, meanwhile, was last seen in the cage late last month, when he retired with a win over Chael Sonnen in the main event of Bellator 170.

Would you rather see Conor McGregor fight Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao? Do you think he can beat either? Sound off, PENN Nation!
