Cris Cyborg Ready for Superfight with Amanda Nunes

Drake Riggs - January 22, 2018

It appears that the UFC Featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg has changed her mind! Originally, she was stating that for her next fight she would like to defend against a fighter that has been competing and winning at Featherweight lately. She has now said that she is ready for the UFC Bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes next rather than waiting until after the title defense against a Featherweight that she was asking for. I have agreed with my management to fight @Amanda_Leoa #ufc226 July 7th in Las Vegas during international fight week. I will let her finalize her side of the bout now. pic.twitter.com/w5YIYYRGV5

Cris Cyborg Isn't a Fan of the McGregor and Rousey Promotion Models

Drake Riggs - January 19, 2018

Was there a Ronda Rousey before Ronda Rousey? Sort of, yeah. A female star that everyone knew about and had interest in? Originally you could give that crown to Gina Carano. That is before it was violently stolen by Cris Cyborg at Strikeforce: Carano vs Cyborg in 2009. Cyborg fought eight times and went 7-0 before finally making her UFC debut at UFC 198 in May of 2016. This was three years after female fighters were first introduced to the UFC at UFC 157 when Rousey defended her title against Liz Carmouche. Ever since that time, Rousey vs Cyborg was the female super fight to make and one that everyone had an opinion on. It was essentially the women’s version of Georges St-Pierre vs Anderson Silva. A fight that so many wanted and came so close to happening but never did and likely never will.

Tom Taylor - January 18, 2018

Over the last few weeks, there has been ample discussion surrounding a potential superfight between UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg and UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. UFC President Dana White has assured this is the fight he wants next for both women.

Cris Cyborg: "To be the real champ, I have to go to Bellator"

Drake Riggs - January 17, 2018

The post-UFC 219 Cris Cyborg saga continues. The question remains, “what’s next?”. Everyone and their mothers have been searching for possible answers. The option that most have been looking at and everyone is seemingly wanting(except for Cyborg herself) is a super fight with the current UFC bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes. Nunes, as well as UFC President, Dana White, have both openly shared their openness to the huge bout but Cyborg is looking at taking a different step first. Cyborg has already stated recently that she is open to fighting Nunes…but after she defends against a real featherweight challenger first. She expanded on this recently when appearing on the MMA Hour.

Cyborg says She'll Take on Nunes after a Defense Against a Fighter With a recent win at Featherweight

Drake Riggs - January 8, 2018

Nothing is set in stone regarding the UFC’s current Featherweight division. Matter of fact, there has yet to be a UFC Featherweight fight between two fighters that haven’t fought below 140 lbs. There have been three Featherweight fights so far in the UFC. Starting things off with UFC 208, where the inaugural champion was crowned when Germaine De Randamie defeated Holly Holm via unanimous decision. Both fighters were previously Bantamweight contenders before that fight. The second fight was for the vacant title after De Randamie gave up the title making it Cris Cyborg vs Tonya Evinger. Evinger was coming over as the Invicta FC Bantamweight champion, filling in for Invicta’s Featherweight champion, Megan Anderson. And most recently, Cyborg defended her title against Holly Holm at UFC 219. In an effort to break this trend, the champion, Cyborg wants to fight a fighter with a recent win at 145 lbs for her next title defense. Then she will be open to a super fight with the Bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes who is clamoring for the fight as are the fans. Cyborg had this to say on Twitter in response to Nunes’ coach at American Top Team, Conan Silveira when he said he thinks Nunes vs Cyborg will “1000% happen”.

Cyborg vs Nunes is "1000% Happening", says Coach Silveira

Drake Riggs - January 8, 2018

UFC 219 left us with two big questions. Those being, “who’s next for Cris Cyborg?” and “who’s next for Khabib Nurmagomedov?”. These are both questions we have yet to get answers too. But…we appear to be getting closer to the answer for Cyborg more than we are for Khabib. The reigning UFC Featherweight champion, Cyborg has called for a fight with top 3 Featherweight, Megan Anderson since her win over Holly Holm at UFC 219. That fight, however, isn’t possible just yet as Anderson has yet to be cleared to compete. The second name that was brought up was current Bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes who is all for the fight. She isn’t the only one though, UFC president, Dana White also voiced that that’s the fight he would like to make next and today, American Top Team head coach and coach of Nunes gave his take on the fight when he spoke with MMAJunkie: “People want to see it, I think they have the best opportunity to leave their marks on history. I believe for the weight division, Amanda is going to be extremely well-prepared,” he said. “She’s not going to have to make the weight. She’s probably going to be strong in that division. I do believe the compensation (for) the strength that comes from Cyborg definitely will be the tools that Amanda has on her side. I think it’s the perfect fight. It’s a perfect match. It’s a champions fight – it’s something we don’t see happen often.

Drake Riggs - January 5, 2018

Ever since UFC 219 came to a close when we heard Bruce Buffer make the announcement that Cris Cyborg had retained her UFC Featherweight title, everyone has been wondering who will be next.  That includes fans as well as fighters themselves. As well as former fighters and former UFC and Strikeforce Bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate in particular. Miesha spoke about the situation in UFC’s Featherweight division recently on Sirius XM’s MMA Tonight. The current UFC 145 lb division is currently occupied by Cyborg and the 8-2 former Invicta FC champion. Megan Anderson. Anderson has been talked about as a strong candidate for getting the next crack at Cyborg. .@MieshaTate tells @realOCsports that her problem with a potential @criscyborg vs. @MeganA_mma fight is Megan's inexperience plus the quality of opponents in which Megan has beat. pic.twitter.com/5NbqBkC9Nl

VIDEO | Dana White Says He's Making Amanda Nunes Versus Cyborg Happen

Justin Golightly - January 4, 2018

Cris Cyborg came, she saw, she conquered. She took on her biggest test to date and still proved she’s the most dominant women’s champion in the world of MMA today. After winning a decision over former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm, everyone is wondering what will be next. Cyborg has said she wants true featherweight fighter Megan Anderson, but the UFC seems to have other plans. Despite saying she doesn’t want to fight another Brazilian, Dana White says Amanda Nunes challenging Cyborg is the fight to make. “First of all, Amanda Nunes wants to fight her. Amanda Nunes wants to fight [Cris] Cyborg,” White said. “That is the fight to make, and that is the fight I will make. Yeah, That’s the fight. That’s the fight. Amanda Nunes is a big, strong, powerful puncher. I think she matches up very well with Cyborg too, and I think that’s a fun fight. And that’s the fight to make.”

EXCLUSIVE | Cris Cyborg explains why she has requested fight with Megan Anderson instead of Amanda Nunes

Tom Taylor - January 3, 2018

Just days removed from her exciting UFC 219 victory over Holly Holm, UFC women’s featherweight champ Cris Cyborg is already looking ahead to her next fight. The champ is now hoping to fight Invicta featherweight queen Megan Anderson, ideally when the UFC touches down in Anderson’s native Australia with UFC 221 on February 11. While Cyborg has heard the calls for a superfight between herself and UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, she feels that it’s important for her to fight a legitimate featherweight like Anderson in her next fight – and for a pretty noble reason.

EXCLUSIVE | Cris Cyborg explains what surprised her about five-round scrap with Holly Holm

Tom Taylor - January 3, 2018

Last Saturday, in the main event of UFC 219, UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg stepped into the Octagon to attempt her first title defense. Her opponent on this quest was former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. While Cyborg ultimately came out on top in this fight, capturing a well-deserved unanimous decision, Holm certainly didn’t make it easy for her. The former bantamweight champ hung in there for the duration of the fight, landing meaningful offense of her own throughout.

Cris Cyborg reacts to Jackson-Wink photographer losing credentials

Tom Taylor - January 3, 2018

Over the last few days, JacksonWink photographer Mark Aragon has been on the receiving end of a tidal wave of scorn, having made some truly ugly comments about UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg on Instagram in the wake of her UFC 219 win over Holly Holm. The staff photographer from Jackson-Wink posted this last night. Apparently he was also credentialed to the fights. Would expect a lot more from such a well respected gym. https://t.co/EYXRLE4Vs4 pic.twitter.com/YaAMuEyJOA

JacksonWink Photographer's UFC Credentials Officially Removed

Drake Riggs - January 2, 2018

There hasn’t been a more hated man in MMA than Mark Aragon since UFC 219 came to a close… Aragon is the photographer for the JacksonWink MMA gym and after the UFC 219 main event that saw their fighter, Holly Holm lose to the champion, Cris Cyborg, he posted a rather offensive post on Instagram that upset Cyborg as well as many others on both sides of the subject and fans alike. But today the UFC released a statement that Aragon would no longer be allowed into UFC events(according to MMAFighting).

Cris Cyborg Accepts the Apology of Jackson Wink's Photographer on One Condition

Justin Golightly - January 2, 2018

We’re still dealing with all of the fallout from UFC 219 as we step into 2018. Usually after a big fight, the questions pour in of what’s next for whoever took the victory. Cris Cyborg faced her biggest challenge yet in Holly Holm, yet still perceived and proved her dominance over an opponent that no one can poke holes in anymore. Instead of enjoying this victory and moving on to potentially getting a deal done with Megan Anderson for her next featherweight title defense, she was battling it out with a photographer who made some insulting and controversial comments on his Instagram. After a campaign to get his to apologize, he finally issued one. However, Cyborg issued a caveat. “I accept the apology and hope Dana White and the UFC listen to my request to no longer grant you a credential to any UFC events. You were unprofessional and if you photographed any other professional sport such as the WNBA, you would lose access to work those events. With so many photographers able to remain professional at events, you do not deserve their space in the company.” — Cris Cyborg in reply to photographer Mark Aragon’s Instagram apology.

After defeat of Holly Holm, Cris Cyborg gets called out by "a legit featherweight"

Tom Taylor - December 31, 2017

Last night, the UFC closed out the year 2017 with UFC 219, a stacked card that went down in the fight capital of Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event of this anticipated PPV, UFC women’s featherweight queen Cris Cyborg attempted her first UFC title defense opposite former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. In advance of this fight, Holm was considered one of the toughest tests of Cyborg’s incredible career thus far, and as it turns out, these suspicions proved accurate. Despite Cyborg’s fight-ending power and vaunted aggression, Holm hung in there for five, fun rounds, even popping the champ with solid strikes of her own on a few occasions. In the eyes of some fans, she even won a few rounds. In the end, however, Cyborg’s patience, volume, aggression and cage control earned her a just unanimous decision win.
