Tonight’s UFC Vegas 19: ‘Blaydes vs. Lewis’ event has taken a late hit as a lightweight bout between Drakkar Klose and Luis Pena has been scrapped. Klose and Pena were set to collide on today’s preliminary card but the bout was unfortunately called off after one of Drakkar’s cornermen tested positive for Covid.

The Octagon remains in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 19 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Curtis Blaydes vs. Derrick Lewis. Blaydes (14-2 MMA) will be stepping foot in the Octagon for the first time since defeating Alexander Volkov by unanimous decision this past June. That win marked Blaydes’ fourth in a row, as he had previously scored victories over Justin Willis, Shamil Abdurakhimov and Junior dos Santos.

Blaydes is set to take on Lewis in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event on February 20 in Las Vegas. Blaydes is currently the No. 2 ranked heavyweight in the UFC, while Lewis is No. 4, so the winner of this fight is most likely going to want a title shot against the winner of UFC 260’s Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou 2. However, with Jones set to make his heavyweight debut this summer, UFC president Dana White has already hinted that “Bones” is likely going to get the next title shot.

Now that “Razor” is healthy he says he is eager to fight Lewis as he knows there is a clear path to victory.

The hope was to have the fight rescheduled for January, but according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the fight will headline the February 20 card.

UFC heavyweight Curtis Blaydes has revealed the targeted date for the rebooked UFC heavyweight fight against rival Derrick Lewis. Blaydes and Lewis were set to headline the UFC Vegas 15 card on November 28, but the fight fell apart at the last minute after Blaydes tested positive for COVID-19. The original plan from the UFC was to rebook the match after Blaydes did his two-week quarantine and recovered, but the UFC was not able to make it happen before the end of 2020. Instead, the promotion is now targeting the fight to take place in early 2021. The problem is, the UFC still wants it as a main event fight and there are not many dates available right now.

Curtis Blaydes has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, his UFC Vegas 15 main event fight with Derrick Lewis has been canceled. This unfortunate news was first reported by Ariel Helwani of ESPN, the UFC’s official broadcast partner. Helwani also added that the UFC is hoping to reschedule this heavyweight fight for later in December, once Blaydes has a clean bill of health.
