Dana White now confident McGregor-Mayweather will happen
Throughout the course of 2017, conflicting reports have continued to emerge regarding the status of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight in the boxing ring.
While Mayweather and the UFC President both made one another offers, neither offer was pleasing to both men, and as a result talks appeared to die down. Shortly after however, the NSAC confirmed that while a fight was still far off from being finalized, negotiations between the two parties were ongoing. This has then been followed up by several conflicting reports of whether or not a fight was close, with both Mayweather and White saying that a fight was far from official.
Now however, UFC President Dana White is very confident that a fight could happen, telling Fox Sports:
“I do. I do think it’s going to happen,” White said. “I think it’s going to be a tough deal, there’s obviously a lot of egos involved in this deal and a lot of people so that always makes it tougher.
“On the flipside, there’s so much money involved, I just don’t see how it doesn’t happen.”
“It would be boxing. No kicking, no elbows, just straight-up boxing, in a boxing ring with gloves and the whole deal. A lot of things make this fight intriguing but the reality is this — anybody who has ever seen Floyd Mayweather, he’s this big (motioning at his small size). Conor McGregor is huge,” White said.
“He’s 27 years old, he’s in the prime of his career. Floyd is 40. Floyd always had problems with southpaws, Conor is a southpaw and Conor hits hard. When Conor hits people, they go. Floyd’s definitely not knocking him out, that’s for sure. I’m not saying that Conor would win this boxing match but it sure makes it interesting.”
This of course comes on the heels of UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping stating that Mayweather was scammed out of quite a bit of money in Las Vegas, and as a result will be seeking a fight with Conor McGregor even moreso to replace the money he was allegedly scammed out of.
