This very public falling out between Cerrone and JacksonWink has the MMA community divided. Some fans and pundits are siding with the gym, while others are steadfastly on team Cowboy. Cerrone unleashed particularly incendiary comments about coach Mike Winkeljohn, and wrestling coach Chad Smith. One of the first people to jump to the aid of coaches Winkeljohn and Smith was UFC welterweight veteran and Jackson-Wink staple Diego Sanchez. In his first statement on the issue, which was released Wednesday night, Diego Sanchez defended the gym and assured that he would happily fight his former teammate “Cowboy” if Mike Perry doesn’t make it to their November 10 fight in Denver.

Donald Cerrone — better known as “Cowboy” — is one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC. His newest side project is only going to boost his reputation among the fans and his fellow fighters. In a Tuesday night Instagram post, Cowboy announced plans to launch an amateur fight series called Cowboy Fight Series. These events, Cowboy explains, will give amateur fighters a platform on which to grow their skills and their reputations, and in some cases, earn professional contracts with top regional promotions. Cowboy will also invite some of these amateurs to live with him on the BMF ranch, where they’ll have the opportunity to train and develop amongst some of the sport’s very best fighters.
