Donald Cerrone is launching an amateur fight series
Tom Taylor - July 4, 2018
Donald Cerrone — better known as “Cowboy” — is one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC. His newest side project is only going to boost his reputation among the fans and his fellow fighters. In a Tuesday night Instagram post, Cowboy announced plans to launch an amateur fight series called Cowboy Fight Series. These events, Cowboy explains, will give amateur fighters a platform on which to grow their skills and their reputations, and in some cases, earn professional contracts with top regional promotions. Cowboy will also invite some of these amateurs to live with him on the BMF ranch, where they’ll have the opportunity to train and develop amongst some of the sport’s very best fighters.
3 options for Donald Cerrone's potential return to the lightweight division
Tom Taylor - June 29, 2018
On Thursday morning, Donald Cerrone took to Instagram with a post that seemed to imply that he’s returning to the UFC lightweight division after a lengthy stint at welterweight. The one drawback of Cerrone’s famously busy schedule is that it means he’s already fought many of the lightweight division’s top players. The good news is that there are still a few lightweight stars Cerrone has yet to meet in the cage, including several that have risen to prominence during his sojourn in the welterweight division.
Donald Cerrone hints at return to lightweight division
Tom Taylor - June 28, 2018
Donald Cerrone’s first four fights in the UFC welterweight division could not have gone better, as he delivered decisive stoppage wins over game foes in Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, Rick Story, and Matt Brown. Unfortunately, his subsequent time in the division hasn’t gone as he hoped, as he’s sandwiched a knockout defeat of Yancy Medeiros between knockout losses to Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till, and decision defeats to Robbie Lawler and Leon Edwards. Having gone 1-4 in his last five welterweight bouts, it sounds as though “Cowboy” is now plotting a return to the lightweight division, where his UFC career began. He hinted at this lightweight return in a Thursday morning post to Instagram.

Tom Taylor - February 19, 2018
Not long ago, Argentine welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio made an exciting callout of two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. “I’d like to fight Thompson,” Ponzinibbio told MMABrasil.com.br. “I think he’s a great striker, and I want to be the best striker in the division, so I’ve been showing [my skills]. I’ve got six consecutive wins, three by first-round knockout. The last one was a decision, but I’ve been showing good fights, with good exchanges of blows, trying to work [my fights] standing. So I believe I have the resources to beat [Wonderboy], and we would put on a very good fight… a fight that would stay in UFC history.”

In particular, Cerrone seems hellbent on a fight with Dagestan’s Khabib Nurmagomedov, who will battle Tony Ferguson for the title at UFC 223 this April 7. Cerrone and Nurmagomedov, to remind, have plenty of history together, having been booked to fight twice in the past to no avail.
