Frankie Edgar: Conor McGregor is “scared to fight me”

After Frankie Edgar KO’d Chad Mendes in the TUF 22 finale, Dana White promised him a UFC featherweight title shot.

The next night Conor McGregor KO’d Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds to claim the UFC featherweight championship. Immediately following that fight, there was much speculation as to who would get the next featherweight title shot.

McGregor then decided to move up to lightweight at UFC 196, which then became a welterweight fight against Nate Diaz.

In a recent interview at the EA Sports UFC 2 release party, Edgar spoke to media members, which was transcribed by MMAJunkie:

“Everything he does is calculated. To me, that’s also a sign that he’s scared to fight me.

“It’s easy for him to go up to (170) and fight (champ) Robbie Lawler because there’s nothing to lose. Why not? He goes there and loses, and everyone’s going to say, ‘Ah, he fought at 70. He shouldn’t have fought there.’ He comes down to fight me, and there’s something to lose there. He’s the 45 king, and if he loses that one, he’s not the king anymore.”

It is important to mention that UFC President Dana White revealed ahead of UFC 196 that he believes McGregor will vacate the featherweight championship if he wins at UFC 196.
