Frankie Edgar eyes big fight at ‘UFC New York’

At UFC 200 on July 9th, Conor McGregor will have a welterweight rematch with Nate Diaz, and Frankie Edgar will fight Jose Aldo for the interim featherweight championship. UFC President Dana White has stated that regardless of whether or not McGregor defeats Diaz, his next fight will be a featherweight title defense.

With the UFC announcing an event in New York on November 12th at the Madison Square Garden, Frankie Edgar believes the stars could be aligning for a showdown with McGregor at the famed arena.

He spoke to Fox Business to discuss his fight with Aldo, and his desire for a fight with McGregor at the Madison Square Garden.

“It’s kind of silly. It doesn’t really make sense,” Edgar told FOXBusiness.com. “But I get to fight a five-round fight, I get to fight a legend in Aldo and be on one of the biggest cards in UFC history. There’s a lot of plus sides to it. And also, the interim’s going to guarantee me a shot at the title. If I hold the interim, there’s no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. I have to be fighting that guy for the title, or my title becomes the title if [McGregor] doesn’t come down.”

“I’d love to get a win here in July and then fight McGregor for that real title in the Garden in November,” he said. “If not McGregor, then I’ll be defending my title in the Garden.”
