Frankie Edgar “hopefully” meeting with Dana White this week – Title shot imminent?
After Frankie Edgar knocked out Chad Mendes in the main event of ‘The Ultimate Fighter 22’ finale back in December, UFC President Dana White stated that there was no denying Edgar any longer, and that he would get whatever he wanted in terms of a title shot.
The next night at UFC 194, Conor McGregor knocked UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo out cold in just 13 seconds to claim the featherweight championship.
There was much speculation as to who McGregor would defend his featherweight championship against first. While many wanted to see a McGregor vs. Aldo rematch, UFC President Dana White pointed out the first time the UFC booked the bout, Aldo backed out.
McGregor then signed to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196, which became a welterweight scrap with Nate Diaz. Ultimately, McGregor lost the bout via submission, and revealed he would be going back down to featherweight to defend his championship belt.
In the wake of McGregor’s UFC 196 loss, Frankie Edgar is looking to finally get the title shot he was promised after the TUF 22 finale.
He spoke to Fox Sports about the situation:
“I was told after I fought (Chad) Mendes, ‘Frankie gets whatever he wants’ and I still didn’t get what I wanted,” Edgar said. “Now it’s my chance again. Are they going to dog me again? Is Dana (White) going to dog me again and not give me this? He can’t. He just can’t.”
“I’m trying already. On the post-fight show I asked Dana right away, what’s the deal? What’s up with Conor? Who’s getting him next? He said he didn’t know. I’ve been texting him trying to set up a meeting. Eventually, we’re going to get on the phone, hopefully this week.”
Who would you rather see McGregor fight?
