Frankie Edgar and Tyron Woodley think the UFC expected Nate Diaz to lose against Conor McGregor

There were many matchups that were being talked about when UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of the superfight with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Dana White said everyone from our very own BJ Penn to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone wanted to get in as a late replacement opponent against the outspoken Irishman.

Ultimately, Nate Diaz was selected as the opponent that would fight on just ten days notice against McGregor in a non-title welterweight bout, two weight classes above what “The Notorious” fought at for his entire career in the UFC.

Former UFC lightweight champion and top featherweight contender Frankie Edgar was a guest on the Morning Wood show with Tyron Woodley and Din Thomas and they talked about the matchup that ended up with Diaz beating McGregor by submission.

Woodley told Edgar that he personally thought the matchup stylistically with ten days notice was not in favor of Diaz. Edgar agreed with Woodley saying, “Yeah, I agree man, think it was a favorable matchup technically for just a fighting standpoint and also for the media. I mean, of course Nate is great man. I mean, he’s just a one line machine you know? He’s funny as sh*t and you knew the banter back and forth was gonna be great. But you know, coming off ten days notice, I think they (UFC) were looking at Conor to beat him, you know? But, that kind of blew up in their face a little bit.”

While Edgar is campaigning hard for his shot at getting a fight with Conor McGregor for the featherweight championship belt, we will see what the UFC unveils next for “The Notorious” as he is expected to fight in July at UFC 200.
