Jack Della Maddalena isn’t short on confidence going into his first UFC championship opportunity. Maddalena will challenge Belal Muhammad for the UFC welterweight title in the main event of UFC 315 on May 10. Initially, the UFC brass planned to have Shavkat Rakhmonov challenge Muhammad for the 170-pound gold. Rakhmonov suffered an injury and won’t be ready to compete, so Maddalena stepped up.

Belal Muhammad has given his reaction to being booked against Jack Della Maddalena. UFC CEO Dana White dropped a slew of fight announcements this week. One of the more surprising matchups he revealed was a UFC Welterweight Championship fight between titleholder Muhammad and Maddalena. The title bout made more sense when Shavkat Rakhmonov hopped on social media to say that he’s dealing with an injury.

Jack Della Maddalena barely managed to keep his winning streak intact at UFC Vegas 77. Maddalena shared the Octagon with Bassil Hafez. Jack Della Maddalena was supposed to compete on the UFC 290 card, but after two opponents couldn’t compete, Maddalena was moved to UFC Vegas 77. His fight with Hafez went the distance and the judges were split on the result. One judge scored the fight 29-28 in favor of Hafez. That score total was overruled by the two other judges who scored the bout 29-28 for Maddalena, who won via split decision.
