Ever since entering the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Mackenzie Dern has established herself as a fan favorite. In addition to her exceptional ground game, she’s also worked incredibly hard to improve her striking – as we’ve seen across her last few bouts. Unfortunately, it hasn’t always led her down the path of victory, with the 30-year-old going 2-2 in her last four appearances.

Tonight’s UFC Nashville event was co-headlined by a strawweight fight featuring Jessica Andrade taking on Tatiana Suarez. Andrade (24-12 MMA) entered the contest with hopes of snapping her two-fight losing skid. The Brazilian was most previously seen in action at May’s UFC 288 event, where she suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Yan Xiaonan. Prior to that, Jessica had suffered a submission loss to Erin Blanchfield in a flyweight contest.

Jessica Andrade will be making the walk to the Octagon for the fourth time in 2023. The UFC announced in a press release on Tuesday that Andrade will face Tatiana Suarez at UFC Nashville at strawweight. Originally, Suarez was supposed to fight Virna Jandiroba, but the Brazilian has suffered an injury and will be replaced by the former champ in Andrade. The main event of UFC Nashville sees Cory Sandhagen taking on Umar Nurmagomedov.

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Jessica Andrade will be making a quick turnaround. The Brazilian is fresh off her clash with Erin Blanchfield at UFC Vegas 69 last month. Andrade took the fight on short-notice, as Talia Santos was originally slated to compete in the headliner. In the makeshift main event, ‘Cold Blooded’ won by second-round submission.

Blanchfield (11-1 MMA) was returning to the Octagon for the first time since scoring an impressive first-round submission win over Molly McCann at November’s UFC 281 event. That victory had improved Blanchfield’s win streak to seven in a row, with four of those wins coming under the UFC banner.

Andrade revealed she was embarrassed following the defeat, but not with her performance as such, but due to a wardrobe malfunction during the bout. Blanchfield was supposed to face Taila Santos but a week out the Brazilian withdrew and Andrade stepped up. Blanchfield entered the fight being a perfect 4-0 in the UFC and was coming off a submission win over Molly McCann. Andrade, meanwhile, had picked up a lopsided decision win over Lauren Murphy at UFC 283.

She went 2-1 at flyweight but opted to return to the division where she was previously champion.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 52 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Amanda Lemos vs. Jessica Andrade. The highly anticipated strawweight main event resulted in a first round submission victory for the former division champion in Andrade (see that here). Jessica was able to secure a rare standing arm triangle choke in the early moments of the opening round which eventually forced Lemos to tapout.
