Jon Jones gives his pick in Mayweather vs McGregor fight and reasons why

There is no doubt that the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight will be one of the biggest and perhaps the richest fight in combat sports history.

With two superstars colliding in the boxing ring that are coming from two different sports, the masses of die-hard fans, as well as casual ones getting caught up in the hype will be turning their attention to two men on August 26.

Another big fight takes place this weekend as former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will look to get back the title by beating current champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 214. Ahead of the fight, Jones was a guest on ESPN’s Undisputed show and shared his thoughts on what could end up being the richest fight in all of combat sports.

“I want to start by saying that I really admire Conor McGregor a lot,” said Jones. “He’s done so much for our sport. He’s shown me personally that those numbers that he’s achieving are possible. So he’s been a huge inspiration to me.

“But, I’m also a fan of greatness and Floyd Mayweather is unquestionably great. I mean to go 49-0 is such a special thing. He’s 40, but I think Floyd takes care of himself. He’s an advocate of living a clean life and you’d be surprised by what you can get out of yourself when you live the way Floyd does. He has all the resources to stay healthy and on top of his game.”

Jones did go on to address McGregor’s punching power, which many who are siding with “The Notorious” feel will end up winning him the fight.

“I think what makes this fight interesting is Conor McGregor’s punching power. But at the same time, guys like Miguel Cotto and De La Hoya, all these guys, have tremendous punching power. But, what they have that McGregor doesn’t is the years of experience and tightness to back up that punching power. I’ve fought so many guys in the UFC who have punching power who were never able to land that shot on me.

“Like I said, I’m really happy for McGregor to be in this position, but if I were a betting man, I would imagine that you’d have to side on the side of greatness.”
