VIDEO | Relive 18-year-old Jose Aldo finishing his opponent with soccer kicks in a throwback fight

Adam Martin - July 1, 2020

Ahead of his vacant bantamweight title fight against Petr Yan at UFC 251, relive Jose Aldo finishing an opponent with soccer kicks in a throwback fight. Aldo is one of the greatest fighters in MMA history and he will soon get the chance to become one of the rare two-division champs in UFC history when he takes on Yan at UFC 251 on Fight Island. Aldo, of course, was the long-time WEC and UFC featherweight champion, and he will now look to add the bantamweight title to his mantle.

Adam D Martin - June 28, 2020

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is looking absolutely shredded for his upcoming bantamweight title fight against Petr Yan at UFC 251. UFC president Dana White gave Aldo the title shot over the other top contenders at 135lbs including Aljamain Sterling, and fans and media have been critical of that decision by the UFC. Despite being a legend of the sport, Aldo has lost his last two fights to Marlon Moraes and Alex Volkanovski, so for Aldo to get a crack at the belt over the other top contenders in the bantamweight division is certainly a controversial decision from the organization.

Dana White explains why Jose Aldo received vacant title shot against Petr Yan

Adam Martin - June 19, 2020

UFC president Dana White explained why Jose Aldo received the vacant title fight against Petr Yan at UFC 251 over the other top contenders at 135lbs. Despite coming off of back-to-back losses to Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Moraes in his bantamweight debut, the UFC is giving Aldo the title shot against Yan after Henry Cejudo vacated it last month. The Aldo vs. Yan fight has been met with widespread criticism from fans and media, who do not believe that Aldo has earned the opportunity over Aljamain Sterling and some of the other top contenders in the bantamweight division.

Matchmaking the top-15 of the UFC's bantamweight division

Cole Shelton - June 9, 2020

At UFC 250, the bantamweight division was on full display with Cody Stamann, Sean O’Malley, Alajmain Sterling, and Cody Garbrandt all picking up wins. It was a massive night for the division, but the event left a lot of questions unanswered. Currently, the UFC’s bantamweight title is vacant after Henry Cejudo shockingly retired after UFC 249. It is expected Petr Yan will fight Jose Aldo at UFC 251 for the vacant belt, but after that, there is a ton of options for fights. So, here is what I think should be next for the top-10 of the bantamweight division.

Instead, the UFC is giving Dominick Cruz the title shot against Cejudo.

Jose Aldo says he only needs ‘a week of training to beat’ Henry Cejudo

Cole Shelton - March 26, 2020

Jose Aldo isn’t too concerned about not being able to train for his bantamweight title fight against Henry Cejudo. In the main event of UFC 250 on May 9 in Brazil, Cejudo is looking for his first bantamweight title defense when he battles Aldo. The fight being made was heavily criticized given the fact the Brazilian is 0-1 at the weight class and on a two-fight losing skid.

Renato Moicano says former foe Jose Aldo getting a title shot 'isn’t a smart decision'

Cole Shelton - March 7, 2020

Renato Moicano doesn’t think Jose Aldo getting a title shot at bantamweight is fair to the rest of the division. At UFC 250, Aldo, who is 0-1 at bantamweight and riding a two-fight losing skid is fighting for the belt against Henry Cejudo. It is a fight the champion called for and one that UFC president Dana White wanted due to Jose Aldo being a legend.

The next crack at UFC bantamweight champ Henry Cejudo will go to former UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo. Unfortunately, this matchup is generating quite a bit of controversy, as Aldo lost his only fight in the bantamweight division, and is seen as less deserving of the shot than many of his rivals. Chael Sonnen doesn’t see the issue.
