Matt Serra thinks Dominick Reyes edged out Jon Jones

Fernando Quiles - February 11, 2020

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra is of the belief that Dominick Reyes should’ve gotten the nod over Jon Jones. There’s no denying that Jones vs. Reyes was a close encounter. Jones put his UFC light heavyweight title on the line against Reyes this past Saturday night (Feb. 8). The title bout headlined UFC 247 inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. After five rounds of action, Jones was awarded the unanimous decision victory.

Matt Serra says Anthony Pettis struggles when things get tough

Fernando Quiles - January 21, 2020

Matt Serra believes Anthony Pettis has a difficult time when his back is against the wall. Pettis was seen in action this past Saturday night (Jan. 18). He went one-on-one with Diego Ferreira to get the main card of UFC 246 started. Pettis ended up being submitted in the second stanza. “Showtime” has now gone 1-3 in his last four outings. He’s been finished in two of those defeats.

Matt Serra: Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington stoppage was 'pretty bad'

Fernando Quiles - December 23, 2019

Matt Serra believes Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington could’ve played out longer than it did. Usman vs. Covington headlined UFC 245 earlier this month. Usman put the UFC welterweight gold on the line inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a back-and-forth battle, “The Nigerian Nightmare” ended up scoring the fifth-round TKO victory. Covington was quick to protest the stoppage to referee Marc Goddard.

Matt Serra: We might be seeing a rebirth of Darren Till at middleweight

Fernando Quiles - November 7, 2019

Darren Till could be in for a rebirth at 185 pounds. At least that’s what Matt Serra believes. Till was in action at UFC 244 against Kelvin Gastelum. With a historic event inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, many felt that Till would crumble under pressure. “The Gorilla” proved that despite coming off two stoppage losses, he is far from being damaged goods. He defeated Gastelum via split decision in his first middleweight bout under the UFC banner.

Matt Serra says Jorge Masvidal 'definitely' deserves UFC welterweight title shot

Fernando Quiles - July 22, 2019

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra believes it’s hard to deny Jorge Masvidal a shot at 170-pound gold. Masvidal has been the talk of the mixed martial arts world since his flying knee knockout over Ben Askren. The five-second finish set a record for the fastest KO in UFC history. “Gamebred” is riding a wave of momentum and he’s hoping to capitalize on it. Masvidal is looking for a UFC title shot or a money fight with Conor McGregor next.

Matt Serra blasts 'f***ing cheater' TJ Dillashaw in profanity-laced tirade

Tom Taylor - April 11, 2019

Earlier this week, news surfaced that former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw had tested positive for EPO, a powerful performance-enhancer that can only be ingested through injection. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) handed Dillashaw a two-year ban for this incident, but in the eyes of former UFC welterweight champ Matt Serra, that might not be enough. Matt Serra went off on TJ Dillashaw on the UFC Unfiltered podcast this week.

Chris Weidman's corner's live reaction to controversial Gegard Mousasi stoppage

Tom Taylor - April 10, 2017

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of UFC 210, Chris Weidman experienced a controversial TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi. The controversy followed a Mousasi knee, which at first appeared to be illegal – forcing a confusing pause in the action – but was ultimately deemed legal, resulting in a Mousasi win. Part of the reason the fight wasn’t allowed to continue after the knee was deemed legal is because Weidman couldn’t tell the referee what day it was. According to live audio of Weidman’s corner, however, this might not actually be a cause for concern.
