Max Holloway Disses Conor McGregor About UFC 222 Late Replacement Claims
Justin Golightly - February 28, 2018
Conor McGregor supposedly was not only going to step in to fight Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, but it was allegedly going to be for a brand new 165-pound title on top of that. The info about the title was leaked out by Edgar’s manager himself, although he disputes that they were ever offered a fight. McGregor teammate Artem Lobov recently confirmed that the fight and belt was a go. In response, Max Holloway let it leak that he too was in talks to fight for a new belt. “One more update Ariel Helwani. After I was pulled from UFC 222, I offered to amputate my leg and fight for a 115lb belt against Demetrious Johnson. It was very, very close. Plans were in place. But I was told there wasn’t enough time. Stay blessed: The DEFENDING Champ. No need to trademark what he can’t claim.”— Max Holloway via his official Twitter.

Max Holloway is getting fed up with the Floyd Mayweather talk
Tom Taylor - February 20, 2018
One of the biggest ongoing stories in combat sports over the last few months has been Floyd Mayweather’s potential move to MMA. It all began when Mayweather unleashed an ego-soaked rant on Instagram live, suggesting he could come to the UFC and make a billion dollars if he wanted to. It continued when UFC President Dana White assured there had been “real” negotiations with Mayweather and his team, and went further when Mayweather posted a few Instagram videos of himself strutting around an MMA cage. Most recently, the madness swirled on when Mayweather’s father suggested that a move to MMA indeed appeared likely…

Max Holloway issues epic response to Conor McGregor's latest social media jab
Tom Taylor - February 18, 2018
On Friday, Conor McGregor took to Instagram to take a quick jab at current UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway. In this post, McGregor reminded the world that he was able to defeat a young Holloway with a badly injured leg. This was just moments after I tore my ACL in a fight in Boston Massachusetts. It was when I faced off against the current featherweight champion Max Holloway, who I dismantled before and after this ligament tear, to win a lopsided victory. It was father against son in there that night in just my second UFC bout. Young Max is a hell of a fighter, I wonder what the future holds for my young Uce. Ligaments are needed in a fight definitely. Some can fight on however, where as some can not. I always think there are moments in your career that can make you or break you. I have had many in my storied career and this was most certainly one of them. God bless. Boston Strong 🍀

Conor McGregor Throws Another Jab at Featherweight Champ, Max Holloway
Drake Riggs - February 16, 2018
The current UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor has been out of the MMA scene for over a year now. Since he last stepped foot in the octagon, he stepped into the ring to face one of the greatest boxers of all time in Floyd Mayweather. Rumblings have been all over the place in regards to what McGregor’s next move will be. Whether it’s back in MMA, back in boxing or not even fighting at all. Whatever it may be, it hasn’t stopped “the Notorious” from throwing out several jabs on social media to his fellow possible opponents for a potential return to action. Most recently…current featherweight champion and former opponent, Max Holloway:

BREAKING | Max Holloway Injured, Out of Frankie Edgar Fight at UFC 222
Justin Golightly - February 3, 2018
There is a yin and a yang to everything. The universe must always balance itself. The MMA gods must have pulled out all the stops to make the three gigantic super fights expected for 2018. By booking Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic – and attempting to put together fights with Demetrious Johnson, TJ Dillashaw, Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes – it was inevitable something had to go. According to a breaking report, Max Holloway suffered and undisclosed injury that will take him out of his title defense against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222. “According to sources, featherweight champion Max Holloway has suffered an injury that will prevent him from defending his title against Frankie Edgar. The UFC has not officially pulled Holloway from the event, but is expected to do so shortly. The promotion is already in the process of exploring other options for its main event.” – as reported by Brett Okamoto via ESPN.

Max Holloway: "155 is going to happen sooner or later"
Drake Riggs - January 31, 2018
The current king of the UFC’s 145 lb weight class is the Hawaiian superstar, Max “Blessed” Holloway. He currently rides the best winning streak in the UFC with twelve straight victories. Holloway has fought exclusively inside the featherweight division and at only age twenty-six has established him as one of the greatest of all time in the class. However, the champ may not remain a 145er forever as he discussed the possibility of moving up to the lightweight division on a recent episode of The MMA Hour.

VIDEO | Frankie Edgar Admits Max Holloway is His Toughest Test to Date
Justin Golightly - January 25, 2018
We finally have it booked again. MMA fans everywhere wept when Frankie Edgar had to pull out of his UFC 218 fight against Max Holloway, but the tears soon dried up when we found out Jose Aldo would replace him. Now Holloway is going back and trying to finish what he and the former UFC lightweight champion started. UFC 222 will go down in March and Frankie Edgar will attempt to accomplish what was never able to do against Aldo in a fight that he knows is his toughest test to date. “I’m going to have to say yes, [Max Holloway is my toughest test in a title fight] based on what he’s done in his career at this point. With him being so young and people want to say I’m being old, so I think this is my toughest test but this is what I want. If you want to be the best, you have to go after the best guys. I do think I have that chip [on my shoulder of being too small]. I think you need to have a chip on your shoulder regardless, but the fact that people tell me I’m too small, or not strong enough, not tall enough and now I’m too old, that’s definitely motivating and I love proving people wrong. If I’m able to do that, that’s a notch in my hat.”

BREAKING | UFC Hawaii Potentially Slated for Later This Year
Justin Golightly - January 24, 2018
Being the champion of the UFC is more about just a gold strap, it’s about marketing power and promotional leverage. Max Holloway unified the titles and defended the undisputed featherweight title against Jose Aldo with back-to-back finishes. All the while, he was using the momentum gained from his win and being Rolling Stone’s Fighter of the Year for 2017 to get the UFC closer to finally putting on a Hawaii card. Thank to his efforts, it now looks closer than ever after what is reported by KHON to be a successful meeting between the Hawaiian Tourism Authority and the UFC just went down. “UFC Hawaii is not just about me. Hawaii is MMA. So many local martial artists that could be helped with a UFC event here. Instead of money leaving Hawaii for every event it’s time to bring it home. Thanks Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) and Aloha Stadium for fighting for Hawaii.” — Max Holloway yesterday via his Twitter.

Max Holloway Hits Frankie Edgar With a Daily Double in a Hilarious Jeopardy Dig
Justin Golightly - January 18, 2018
There’s a huge fight card coming up this weekend, but don’t neither fighter involved in the main event at UFC 222 are going to let you forget that they’re a couple of months away. Max Holloway was quick to cleverly use Frankie Edgar’s ‘The Answer’ nickname in interviews and Edgar countered that he indeed had the answers to Holloway’s questions. Recently the UFC featherweight champion took their exchange to a whole new level with this amazing Jeopardy photoshop. “BJ Penn and I have history, but Max [Holloway] is just another opponent, man. He could be from Wyoming for all I care. It doesn’t matter to me. I know he’s a very tough competitor and he’s the champion. He’s been proving his worth as the champion, and that’s going to make it all the more better when I go and get that belt from him. If he has questions he’s coming to the right guy for the answers. I’m like ‘Jeopardy’ — ‘What is… I’m gonna whoop that ass.’ That’s the answer he’s coming to find.” — Frankie Edgar speaking to FloCombat.

Hawaii Tourism Authority Meeting the UFC in Las Vegas to Plan UFC Hawaii
Justin Golightly - January 10, 2018
As soon as Max Holloway beat Jose Aldo once again, he jumped right back on the fight to bring the UFC to Hawaii. Just like the pressure fighter he is in the Octagon, he isn’t letting up at all. It looks like he’s finally chipping away at both sides because it looks like things are getting closer. As reported by Rob DeMello of KHON, the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) President George Szigeti will be meeting soon with the UFC in Las Vegas for a potential card at Aloha Stadium. Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO George Szigeti told me today that the HTA is planning to meet face to face with #UFC in Las Vegas “within the next month or two” to discuss possible UFC event at Aloha Stadium. #UFCHawaii @blessedMMA

Frankie Edgar Feels like his UFC 222 Title shot is "Meant to Be"
Drake Riggs - January 9, 2018
The plan for UFC 218 wasn’t always for it to be headlined by a Max Holloway vs Jose Aldo rematch. Initially, it was Holloway set to defend for the first time against former UFC Lightweight champion and two time Featherweight title challenger, Frankie Edgar. Unfortunately, Edgar ended up breaking his orbital bone in training and had to be pulled from the fight just weeks prior. But now he’s ready to go and the pieces have fallen back together. UFC 222 on March 3 from Las Vegas will be the time and place, Edgar spoke with FloCombat today about the rebooking and how it felt when things fell apart.

Max Holloway Willing to See if Frankie Edgar Has 'Answers' For Him
Justin Golightly - January 9, 2018
Suddenly, it’s UFC 218 déjà vu all over again. Max Holloway was supposed to defend his UFC featherweight title against Frankie Edgar, but instead he went back-to-back against Jose Aldo. Not wasting any time, Holloway is determined to keep his promise of fighting every contender in line. His fight with Edgar has been re-booked for UFC 222. 12 straight wins later, Holloway is hoping that Frankie Edgar is the test that everyone keeps saying that he’ll fail. “[The UFC] needed a fight for Vegas and I’ve been asking to fight there. I also have a lot of questions and I heard [Frankie Edgar] got answers. We’re going to find out March 3rd. I can’t wait for this fight. Things happen and we didn’t get to fight the first time around, so I think it only makes sense to bring it back and do it. […] There’s a lot of history between [Edgar] and Hawaiian fighters. I’m going out there to bring one back home, and hopefully next time the UFC will bring my ass all the way back home. Fighting out in the ninth island of Las Vegas is nice, but I want to fight in Hawaii. First thing is first, and ‘The Answer’ is back up, and I got questions for the man. Let’s see if he can answer them for me.”

Report: Max Holloway set to defend featherweight title at UFC 222 in March
Russell Sai - January 8, 2018
It looks like UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will return to defend his featherweight title at UFC 222, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 3. Max Holloway is Named Rolling Stone's 2017 Fighter of the Year
Justin Golightly - December 26, 2017
It’s difficult to narrow down a clear-cut ‘Fighter of the Year’ for 2017. We’ve seen so many amazing things happen and were blindsided by curve ball after curve ball. It just epitomized how unpredictable this combat game is and that no one is safe, no matter how high the perch. If you’re opening up the discussion for candidates though, no question Holloway needs to be on it. After taking out former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis right at the end of 2016, he won the interim featherweight title. This year, he unified and defended it by beating Jose Aldo twice, something no one had ever done. It’s these accomplishments that factored into Rolling Stone awarding him with their 2017 Fighter of the Year award. “It’s surreal. When I found out I was like, ‘Holy sh-t. This is cool as sh-t.’ I’m not going to lie. There’s a bunch of fighters who could have been up for ‘Fighter of the Year’ – Robert Whittaker, Rose Namajunas, Demetrious Johnson. To be chosen, it’s in my nickname: I’m ‘Blessed.’ It’s been a crazy year. I got to fight the greatest of all-time in my weight division not once, but twice. I was watching this guy when I was 16 years old when I first started kickboxing. I wanted to fight [Jose] Aldo in a kickboxing match. A couple years later I came to MMA and wanted to fight him. 10 years later, I got to fight the man twice. It’s a lot of life goals I got to do. It’s hard to put in words.”
