The UFC Asked Max Holloway About Fighting Conor McGregor at Lightweight
Justin Golightly - October 12, 2017
A fight that could be more important than Max Holloway’s win over Jose Aldo is fast approaching in December. He’ll be defending the title for the first time against Frankie Edgar on a stacked Detroit event, the guy that everyone said Conor McGregor avoided while he was at featherweight. However, the UFC may have had another plan in mind, or at least a back-up plan to a back-up plan. During Holloway’s recent contract renegotiation, the UFC gauged his interest in moving up to lightweight to potentially challenge McGregor. “If [the fight with Conor McGregor] happens, it happens. He said 155. When we were talking about the contract, UFC came to me and they were talking about 155. They also talked to me about Conor a little bit. They were asking me about it and then they came to me with the Frankie [Edgar] fight and it was weird. We got the Frankie fight, like I said, I wanted this a year ago. Now, we got to fight Frankie, he’s got the fight now. When we were talking about the contract they said, ‘What about [155] would you go up there?’ Then they asked about Conor. If they wanted me to go up there and fight him, I’d fight him any day. They kept talking about it, but at the end of the day Frankie was the one.”

Max Holloway Geeks Out About 'Greatest of All Time' Demetrious Johnson
Justin Golightly - October 10, 2017
Okay, we have to talk about what Demetrious Johnson did at UFC 216. By now, even your parents and friends who have never watched the UFC had to have sent you the video on Facebook screaming, ‘Did you see this?!’. Of course you did. Mighty Mouse catapulted Ray Borg up into the air and then slapped on an armbar, submitting him and breaking Anderson Silva’s defense record. I was amazing. We’re still freaking out about it and so is UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway, who geeked out about it to Ariel Helwani and partly to Johnson himself was on the line. “Congrats on the amazing ninja sh-t you did. Congrats [Demetrious Johnson]. You’re a beast, man, I couldn’t believe my eyes what I saw on Saturday night [at UFC 216]. I had to watch it like a thousand times. I think he’s the best, I think he’s the GOAT. He’s going out there and he’s doing phenomenal things. He’s making everyone look like they’re not even in a league of his own. It reminds you of the Ronda Rousey era, everyone’s befuddled about what’s going on and he’s doing it against these other guys who are great. The 125 [division] is brand new, you don’t know who the ex-champs is so you can’t say he fought ex-champs. Bla bla, that’s what everyone is arguing about. This guy is the best in the world to keep competing in the UFC and keep doing what he’s doing.”

Max Holloway Not Convinced 'Exhibition Champ' Conor McGregor Will Ever Fight Him Again
Justin Golightly - October 7, 2017
Last week, Conor McGregor addressed a crowd waiting to hear what his next move was, but the man didn’t know himself. After reaching the pinnacle of they money fight game, literally fighting ‘Money’ Floyd Mayweather, he has a long list of options to survey for his next MMA fight and at least three UFC cards to watch before he makes his decision. One of seven names that he rattled off speaking at the Glasgow event was former opponent Max Holloway. The featherweight champion isn’t holding is breathe though, Holloway doesn’t feel like McGregor would ever fight him again. That’s why he’s moving on and forging a name for himself, by himself. “The fight with Conor [McGregor], to be honest, I don’t think it ever happens. He simply is just not about that life. Don’t you think it’s funny this guy walks around calling himself the ‘champ-champ’ and only one of his last four fights was a championship fight? It’s only one. People need to sit back, relax and really think of his last four fights. Only one of them was a championship fight. This guy is over here holding onto something he won in 2015 saying that he’s a champ-champ but he’s not fighting championship fights.”

Conor McGregor Gives Props to Max Holloway and Would Fight Him at Lightweight
Justin Golightly - October 4, 2017
On Friday last week, Conor McGregor made his first major public appearance since his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. We didn’t learn much from the man, other than he has options open to pretty much fight anyone he wants to in his UFC return, but we already knew that. Out of the about seven names mentioned, Max Holloway was one of them. The “champ champ” took out time to praise Holloway and didn’t rule out a rematch. However, it’d have to be in the 155-pound division. “I sonned that young boy. I’m not mad at [Max Holloway]. He’s done a great job. He’s climbed up and claimed that featherweight belt. You see some fights, and so do the public, you see him go in there and you watch him win or lose and you watch how they act and how they carry on. He lost to me and he took it on the chin, he kept his mind frame sharp. Same with [Dustin] Poirier, he’s another guy who kept his mind frame sharp and carried on. [Eddie] Alvarez as well, he took it well – you’ve got to take it on the f-king chin.”

Max Holloway Believes He May Fight Frankie Edgar Before End of 2017
Justin Golightly - September 19, 2017
Over the years, Max Holloway has fought tooth and nail to prove he’s the best 145-er in the world. After losing to Conor McGregor, he’s gone on an obscene 11-fight win streak over everyone the UFC threw at him. His righteous onslaught culminated with finishing Jose Aldo at UFC 212, unifying the featherweight titles and breaking records in the process. At this point, there’s basically only one contender left that Holloway hasn’t fought yet. This is where Frankie Edgar comes in. …At least, that’s what Holloway hopes. “Everyone knows I’ll fight anyone, anywhere, any time. I’ve got a belt to defend. Right now if it’s defending the throne, it’s looking like Frankie [Edgar]. You can’t deny it. The guy’s a legend of the sport, multiple time champ and I can’t wait to get another one on my resume. If Frankie’s the next man up, so be it. I’ve been trying to get this fight forever. I always wanted to fight Frankie, I always wanted to challenge myself. I know he’s a tough competitor but at the end of the day he’s going to have to face me so I’m excited.”

Paulie Malignaggi received a clear warning from another UFC champion
Tom Taylor - August 30, 2017
Former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi is no fan of UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor. After joining the Irishman’s camp to help him prepare for Floyd Mayweather Jr., he abruptly stormed out, feeling that he’d been unfairly represented by the champ and his team. Since then, Malignaggi has repeatedly berated McGregor in interviews and on social media. He’s also clashed with a significant portion of the MMA community, battling fans, media members, and even other fighters on Twitter. The opposition in his latest skirmish? UFC featherweight king Max Holloway. The exchange began when Malignaggi debated the prevalence of body shots in MMA with reporter Damon Martin.

Max Holloway Calls Out McGregor For Saying He's Still Featherweight Champ
Justin Golightly - August 17, 2017
The UFC did everything they could to stop Max Holloway. People have fought less talent and received a title shot, but Holloway was never that lucky. Whether it was just the draw of the cards, or the UFC stalling to see how the featherweight division lives without Conor McGregor, they put opponent after opponent in front of the young Hawaiian until he took them all out. After a long journey to the very top of the challenge tower, it’s finally the Blessed Era. He has more victories on his record than former champ Jose Aldo has fights in the UFC. Now, since Conor McGregor opened his mouth on yesterday’s May/Mac conference call, Holloway would like to set one of his losses right. After his win, talks of the UFC going to Hawaii became more serious than ever.
