Cris Cyborg gives her take on upcoming Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson showdown

Tom Taylor - April 13, 2018

UFC 225, which goes down on June 9 in beautiful Chicago, Illinois, looks like an early frontrunner for 2018’s Card of the Year. One of the latest additions to this absolutely stacked card is a women’s featherweight showdown between former Invicta featherweight champ Megan Anderson, and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. Given that there is only a handful of fighters in the UFC women’s featherweight division, it should come as no surprise that this newly announced matchup is of particular interest to divisional champ Cris Cyborg. Speaking to Amy Kaplan of Fansided, Cyborg gave her take on this matchup. While she isn’t surprised that the UFC put the fight together, she also doesn’t seem sure it was the right fight to make.

Former Invicta champ Megan Anderson to make UFC debut against Holly Holm

Tom Taylor - April 12, 2018

Former Invicta featherweight champion Megan Anderson will finally make her UFC debut at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago. While debuting fighters are often given soft welcomes to the UFC, Anderson will receive no such luxury. Instead, the Australian will battle former UFC women’s bantamweight champion and two-time featherweight title challenger Holly Holm. This awesome booking was first reported by the Chicago Tribune.

Megan Anderson weighs in on Holly Holm's future

Tom Taylor - June 20, 2017

Back in February, Holly Holm battled Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural UFC women’s bantamweight title. On August 29, in co-main event of UFC 214, Megan Anderson will battle Cris “Cyborg” Justino for that same title. Speaking exclusively to BJPenn.com on Monday, Anderson weighed in on Holm’s recent head-kick knockout defeat of Bethe Correia, and the three-fight losing streak that preceded it.

Megan Anderson on Germaine de Randamie: "she’s undersized at ’45, and she knew that"

Tom Taylor - June 20, 2017

When Germaine de Randamie won the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title by defeating Holly Holm back in February, the expectation was that she would then defend that title against the division’s consensus best fighter, Cris “Cyborg” Justino. Instead, however, De Randamie refused to fight Cyborg on the basis of her previous failed drug test, which is now years in the past. As a result of this refusal, De Randamie was stripped of the featherweight title. Cyborg will now battle Invicta champion Megan Anderson for the vacant title in the co-main event of UFC 214 this July 29.

Megan Anderson will not be surprised if Cyborg tries to take her down

Tom Taylor - June 20, 2017

After months of rumors and reports, it’s now official. Germaine de Randamie has been stripped of the UFC featherweight title, and Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Megan Anderson will battle for the vacant featherweight throne in the co-main event of UFC 214 this July 29. On Monday afternoon, Anderson spoke with BJPenn.com about this newly announced title showdown. While she was reluctant to give up the details of her game plan for the incredibly dominant Cyborg, she did shed some light on how she plans to approach the fight.

UFC issues statement on choice to strip Germaine de Randamie of featherweight title

Tom Taylor - June 19, 2017

Earlier today, we learned that Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Megan Anderson will collide for undisputed UFC women’s featherweight gold in the co-main event of UFC 214 in Anaheim, California this July 29. This news immediately raised question about the status of Germaine de Randamie, who won the undisputed women’s featherweight title with a controversial decision defeat of Holly Holm back in February. De Randamie, as many speculated, has been stripped of the undisputed featherweight title so that this Cyborg-Anderson fight could be made possible. The promotion stripped the Dutch fighter of her title after she refused to fight Cyborg.

Cris "Cyborg" Justino takes a page out of BJ Penn's book in latest callout of Megan Anderson

Tom Taylor - May 2, 2017

Cris “Cyborg” Justino is widely considered the best female featherweight on earth. Yet she is not the UFC women’s featherweight champion. That honor belongs instead to Germaine de Randamie, who won the belt with a hard-fought January defeat of Holly Holm. Given Cyborg’s status as the consensus best fighter in the division, she and her fans have long suggested she deserves a crack at De Randamie, and the UFC women’s featherweight belt. Unfortunately, De Randamie has been something of a ghost of late, giving little in the way of information as to when or against whom she might next defend her title.

BREAKING | Cris "Cyborg" Justino and Megan Anderson agree to July showdown

Tom Taylor - May 1, 2017

The UFC women’s featherweight division is in disarray. Since winning the inaugural title with a controversial January decision over Holly Holm, reigning champ Germaine de Randamie has been something of a ghost, revealing little in the way of information as to when or who she might fight next. At the same time, former Invicta champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino – the consensus best fighter in the division – has been chomping at the bit for a shot at the absentee champion, while reigning Invicta featherweight queen Megan Anderson has been patiently waiting to get the call for her UFC debut. As I said, disarray. On this Monday afternoon, the chaos-ridden division seems to have gotten a sorely needed injection of order.

De Randamie vs. Cyborg title fight likely not happening at UFC 214, Cyborg now wants July bout with Megan Anderson

Tom Taylor - April 12, 2017

Having defeated Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg in the UFC’s Octagon in 2016, Cris “Cyborg” Justino is now firmly embedded as a member of the promotion’s roster. As such, she was recently asked to vacate her Invicta featherweight title, which in turn meant that interim featherweight champion Megan Anderson was promoted to undisputed champ. No longer tied to Invicta, Cyborg has recently had her sights set firmly on Germaine De Randamie, who captured the UFC’s inaugural women’s featherweight title with a decision defeat of Holly Holm earlier this year.

Tom Taylor - April 6, 2017

Cris “Cyborg” Justino is no longer the Invicta Fighting Championship featherweight queen. Now firmly embedded as a member of the UFC women’s featherweight roster, she was recently asked to give up this title. With this development, Megan Anderson, who previously wore Invicta’s interim featherweight title, was promoted to undisputed champion. Speaking to BJPenn.com’s Tom Taylor, Cyborg recently explained that, while she is no longer directly tied to the Invicta organization, she is excited for a seemingly inevitable showdown with Anderson down the road.

Invicta champ Megan Anderson breaks down potential clash with "Cyborg"

Tom Taylor - March 16, 2017

Megan Anderson, who currently holds the Invicta interim featherweight title, is one of the best female featherweights on the planet today. While there is no indication that she’ll sign with the UFC in the immediate future, she is already being discussed as an opponent for UFC star Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, who is far and away the sport’s premiere female featherweight. On Wednesday’s edition of BJ Penn Radio, Anderson discussed this potential clash with host Kinch, explaining that she believes she’d make an excellent opponent for Cyborg based on her skillset, control of range, and size.
