The Octagon returned to Houston for tonight’s UFC 262 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Michael Chandler vs. Charles Oliveira. The highly anticipated lightweight title fight proved to be a tale of two rounds. Michael Chandler was able to get off to a strong start in round one, hurting Charles Oliveira on number of occasions. However, things changed drastically in the opening seconds of round two. ‘Do Bronx’ landed a big right hand that had the former Bellator title holder hurt and promptly finished him off with a plethora of punches.

Chandler headlines next Saturday’s card against Charles Oliveira, with the winner taking home the vacant UFC lightweight title. The original co-main event was set to be Diaz against Edwards in a five-round welterweight bout, but that fight was postponed after Diaz suffered a minor injury in training. Chandler turned heads at his UFC debut earlier this year when he knocked out Dan Hooker. The win was good enough for the promotion to give him a vacant UFC lightweight title shot against Charles Oliveira at UFC 262 in May. And while Chandler is fully focused on that fight, it hasn’t stopped him from taking to social media and interviews to take shots at Poirier. There is a reason for that, according to Chandler.

UFC lightweight Michael Chandler revealed his ambitious plan of fighting Charles Oliveira at UFC 262 and then Conor McGregor at UFC 264. Chandler is currently set to take on Oliveira for the vacant UFC lightweight title in the main event of UFC 262 on May 15. Chandler recently said in an interview that, assuming a win over “Do Bronx,” he wants to fight McGregor by the year’s end. However, with McGregor now suggesting that his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 could be off due to Poirier bringing to the public eye McGregor’s non-donation to his charity “The Good Fight Foundation,” it’s possible that this fight could be in jeopardy. McGregor himself said as much on Twitter say, suggesting that he will be looking at other options for UFC 264.

Chandler made his UFC debut earlier this year on the undercard of the Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor rematch at UFC 257, where he scored a first-round KO over Dan Hooker. That was a massive win for Chandler, and he will return to the Octagon on May 15 when he meets Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 262 with the lightweight title on the line. That fight was made possible when Poirier turned down Oliveira so he could fight McGregor in a trilogy fight. The rivals will meet for the third time this summer at UFC 264 on July 10.
