Report: “Platinum” Mike Perry Returns to the Octagon at ‘UFC Nashville’

By Tom Taylor - March 3, 2017

“Platinum” Mike Perry is poised for a return to the Octagon. The fan favorite welterweight will be taking on Jake Ellenberger at ‘UFC Fight Night: Nashville’, which goes down on April 22nd on Fox Sports 1 at the Bridgestone Arena according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

This bout will be Perry’s fourth in the UFC’s Octagon. In his first Octagon appearance, which occurred in August of 2016, he scored a thudding, first-round TKO over dangerous South Korean talent Hyun Gyu Lim. In his second UFC bout, which occurred in October, he put Danny Roberts down in the third round of a thrilling, back-and-fourth scrap, sealing the deal with a knee and several followup punches. In his most recent bout, finally, Perry experienced his first pro loss, giving up a decision to the more experienced Alan Jouban on the main card of December’s UFC on Fox 22. With this loss, his overall record moved to 9-1.

Perry’s opponent Jake Ellenberger on the other hand will be looking to return to the win column after a strange 1st round TKO loss to Jorge Masvidal last year when he got his toe stuck in the cage. Prior to that however, Ellenberger picked up a 1st round TKO win over Matt Brown in his ‘contract fight’ to snap a 2-fight skid, and prevent the UFC from releasing him after going just 1-4 in his last 5 fights. For the 31 year old, #12 ranked welterweight, a win over Mike Perry could go far in regards to Ellenberger’s case for the promotion holding onto him despite his inconsistent record over the past several years.

Several other fights have already been announced for the event, including the main event scrap between Cub Swanson and Artem Lobov, which was confirmed as the main event earlier this week after a brief period of uncertainty regarding the bout order.
