With talks of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match currently dominating headlines in both the MMA community and the boxing community, everyone wants a piece of the action! To kick off 2017, Mayweather made McGregor an offer to fight for $15 million. UFC President Dana White was quick to make an appearance on ‘The Herd’, where he made Mayweather a formal offer of $25 million to fight, explaining that the pair could discuss how the PPV sales would be split. Mayweather was quick to respond, calling White a “comedian” for what he believed to be a low-ball offer.

Talks have seriously heated up in regards to a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match in 2017. To kick off the year, Mayweather made McGregor a fight offer, offering the UFC superstar $15 million to fight, while leaving the door open to potentially giving the UFC lightweight champ a cut of the PPV sales. That offer didn’t sit too well with UFC President Dana White, who appeared on ‘The Herd’ this week to offer Mayweather $25 million to fight McGregor, while saying that the pair could talk about how the PPV sales would be split. Mayweather laughed off White’s offer, reiterating that he wouldn’t fight for less than $100 million, a figure he had mentioned consistently throughout the course of the last several months.

To close out 2016, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made her highly anticipated return to the Octagon over a year after losing her championship belt when she was knocked out by Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 193. Unfortunately for Rousey, after months of buildup leading to her return, it took just 48 seconds for bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to defeat Rousey, picking up a quick and devastating TKO win over the former champ. Following the fight, there was much speculation as to whether or not Rousey would return to the Octagon. It didn’t take long for the former champ to break her silence as she revealed that she would be taking some time to process the loss before she made any decisions about her future in the sport.

Top ranked UFC women’s bantamweight Julianna Pena has continued to make waves in interviews as she has continued her verbal onslaught of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey leading up to, and in the wake, of Rousey’s return to the Octagon at UFC 207. Prior to Rousey’s return at UFC 207, Pena called out Ronda Rousey in numerous interviews in hopes of securing a fight with the former champ when she returned to the Octagon given their beef when Pena was competing on The Ultimate Fighter. After Rousey stepped into the cage with Amanda Nunes and was TKOd in just 48 seconds, Pena continued her verbal onslaught of the former champ despite the fact that she is currently booked to fight Valentina Shevchenko at ‘UFC Fight Night: Denver’ later this month.

After Conor McGregor captured the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 205 by defeating Eddie Alvarez in a brilliant performance that resulted in a 2nd round TKO loss for Alvarez, all signs pointed to Khabib Nurmagomedov receiving the next lightweight title shot after his dominant 3rd round submission win over Michael Johnson. Following the event, McGregor announced that he would need to take several months off from fighting due to the upcoming birth of his firstborn child in May. In the meantime, the UFC has officially announced that lightweight #1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov would be fighting Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight championship at UFC 209 on March 4th.

Thursday evening, news surfaced that top ranked lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson would be stepping into the Octagon at UFC 209 on March 4th for a highly anticipated showdown for the interim lightweight title. The announcement came after a period of speculation, where it appeared as though Ferguson would not be taking the bout. After the pair verbally agreed to the scrap, Ferguson expressed his desire to hold out for more money. After UFC President Dana White revealed that Ferguson wouldn’t be getting the same money as ‘The Eagle’, it was confirmed that Ferguson had accepted the bout.

Next months UFC 208 event in Brooklyn just received a huge addition as UFC President Dana White announced that former middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva would be returning to the octagon to take on Derek Brunson. Anderson Silva will compete for the first time since suffering a decision loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at July’s UFC 200 event.

Until yesterday, Brazilian heavyweight Junior Dos Santos expected to return to the Octagon against Stefan Struve on February 19 in Halifax. Regrettably, however, Struve was forced out of this planned scrap with an injury, which left Dos Santos without an opponent. Still eager to fight in the near future, Dos Santos now has his eyes on two potential opponents. One is former champion Fabricio Werdum, who he knocked out back in 2008. The other is heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, who he defeated by decision in 2014.
