The Octagon remains in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 14 event, a ten-bout fight card headlined by Paul Felder vs. Rafael dos Anjos. The former UFC lightweight champion, Dos Anjos, was initially slated to fight Islam Makhachev in tonight’s event headliner. However, the Russian standout tested positive for Covid-19 and was forced to withdraw from the contest.

Paul Felder believes it would be best for business if the UFC were to hold a lightweight tournament with no hand-picked fights. Felder (17-5 MMA) will be returning to the Octagon this evening on short-notice to battle former UFC lightweight title holder Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC Vegas 14.

Rafael dos Anjos has revealed this Saturday’s card was close to being canceled. On Sunday, it was revealed Islam Makhachev was out of the fight with RDA due to injury. Immediately, many fans wondered if the UFC would even hold the event if the promotion couldn’t find a replacement for the Russian. Yet, on Monday, it was revealed Paul Felder stepped up on five days’ notice to headline the card and ultimately save the show.

On Saturday night, the UFC will return to our screens with the under-the-radar UFC Vegas 14 card out of the promotion’s Apex facility. The card was originally expected to be headlined by a lightweight showdown between Rafael dos Anjos and Islam Makhachev. When Makhachev was forced off the bill with a staph infection, however, No. 7-ranked lightweight contender Paul Felder stepped in to replace him on just five days’ notice. Felder will now meet dos Anjos in a five-round lightweight fight in the card’s main event.

The full betting odds have been released for the 12 fights scheduled to take place at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 41: Felder vs. dos Anjos event. The main event of the evening is an intriguing five-round lightweight bout between former champion Rafael dos Anjos and top contender Paul Felder. Dos Anjos was supposed to fight Islam Makhachev but he was forced to withdraw due to illness and was replaced on five days’ notice by Felder. Dos Anjos enters this content having lost four of his last five fights, albeit at welterweight, while Felder’s coming off of a razor-thin decision loss to Dan Hooker.

Paul Felder says there’s a “50-50” chance he’ll retire if he defeats Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC Vegas 13 this Saturday. Dos Anjos was originally expected to take on Islam Makhachev in the card’s main event. When Makhachev was ruled out of the fight with staph infection, however, Felder stepped in on just five days’ notice.

UFC featherweight Jared Gordon explained why he won’t be in the corner of his good friend Paul Felder in his fight against Rafael dos Anjos. Gordon and Felder are teammates and training partners at Roufusport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, not to mention really good friends outside of the cage. Back on Fight Island in July, Felder famously got up from the commentary booth where he was announcing the card to corner Gordon to victory against Chris Fishgold. When Felder was announced to be fighting against dos Anjos at UFC Vegas 14 this Saturday on five days’ notice, most assumed Gordon would be in Felder’s corner. However, that won’t be the case.

The opening betting odds were released for the UFC Vegas 14 main event this Saturday between contenders Paul Felder and Rafael dos Anjos. Felder stepped up on short notice and saved the show as he is filling in for Islam Makhachev on just five days’ notice and taking on a former champion in dos Anjos this Saturday at UFC Vegas 14. It’s incredible that Felder found the will to step up on such short notice and not only fight dos Anjos, but to do so at 155lbs and do so in a five-round fight. On paper, Felder vs. dos Anjos has the potential to be a fan-friendly fight.

Paul Felder is stepping up on short notice to headline this Saturday’s card against Rafael dos Anjos. Originally, dos Anjos was expected to face Islam Makhachev. However, on Sunday night it was revealed the Russian withdraw from the bout, and immediately the UFC searched for a replacement. According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, that replacement in Paul Felder. The fight will also remain a five-rounder and be at lightweight.

UFC lightweight Paul Felder says he told UFC president Dana White that he wants to be the one to welcome Michael Chandler to the Octagon. Chandler, the former three-time Bellator lightweight champion, was recently signed to a lucrative free-agent deal. As part of Chandler’s new deal with the UFC, he has been selected as the official backup for the UFC 254 main event lightweight title unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. The UFC typically doesn’t give that kind of opportunity to a newcomer, which shows you how high the promotion is on him.

UFC commentator Dan Hardy was livid about a UFC Fight Island 3 officiating blunder from referee Herb Dean, and he wasn’t afraid to show it. The controversy occurred in a lightweight contest between Francisco Trinaldo and Jai Herbert. In the third round, Trinaldo leveled Herbert with an overhand left. The impact clearly left Herbert unconcious, but Dean neglected to stop the action, leaving Trinaldo to land two additional and concussive strikes.
Report: Paul Felder pulled from Fight Island commentary as a precaution

According to Michael Bisping, Paul Felder has been pulled from his commentary gigs on UFC Fight Island as a precaution. Felder was scheduled to commentate all four Fight Island cards, starting with UFC 251 this Saturday, and concluding with UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Till on July 25. Regrettably, he’s apparently been pulled from those commentary spots.

After an incredibly close-contested fight against Dan Hooker, Paul Felder put his fighting future up in the air and admitted in his post-fight press conference that he would be considering retirement. Felder seemed to start to get away from the idea of retirement in March, saying he feels he’s got a lot more left in him, and that means the stacked lightweight division will be keeping one of its most dangerous contenders. Following his fight against Hooker, Felder’s coach Duke Roufus revealed that he asked UFC President Dana White for a rematch between the two, but Hooker is currently scheduled to meet Dustin Poirier at some point when the UFC returns to action.

Furthermore, Roufus believes Felder and Hooker could run it back and had an interesting suggestion for that potential rematch.
