Paul Felder inks new, multi-fight deal with with UFC

Paul Felder isn’t going anywhere. According to a report from MMA Fighting, the lightweight contender has signed a new, multi-fight deal with the UFC. Paul Felder last fought in the main event of UFC Vegas 14 last Saturday, when he lost a split decision to former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. However, Felder accepted the fight on just five days’ notice—replacing dos Anjos’ original opponent, Islam Makhachev—so he hardly lost any ground in defeat.

UFC lightweight contender Paul Felder did an interview while getting stitched up following his war with Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Vegas 14. Felder stepped up on five days’ notice to take on dos Anjos in the main event of UFC Vegas 14 on Saturday night. Despite taking the fight on super short notice, Felder put up a heck of a fight, ultimately losing a split decision on the judges’ scorecards. It was an incredible performance by a fighter who wasn’t even expected to compete on the card.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 14, Rafael dos Anjos was making his return to the lightweight division to take on Paul Felder who took the fight on short notice. Entering the fight, both men were looking to get back into the win column and get a top-five opponent next time out. Yet, it was dos Anjos who used his grappling to dominate the fight and win a clear decision, although one judge somehow had it scored for Felder.

When the judges scored Rafael dos Anjos vs. Paul Felder at UFC Vegas 14 as a split decision, it was a shocker for almost everyone watching. The main event of UFC Vegas 14 was a competitive, yet clear decision for dos Anjos. BJPenn.com scored the fight 49-46 in favor of dos Anjos, giving him the first three rounds and the fifth round and giving Felder the fourth round. Most of the media at MMADecisions.com scored the fighter either 50-45 or 49-46 for dos Anjos.

Chandler, the former three-time Bellator lightweight champion, was recently signed to a lucrative free-agent deal. As part of Chandler’s new deal with the UFC, he has been selected as the official backup for the UFC 254 main event lightweight title unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. UFC commentator Dan Hardy was livid about a UFC Fight Island 3 officiating blunder from referee Herb Dean, and he wasn’t afraid to show it. The controversy occurred in a lightweight contest between Francisco Trinaldo and Jai Herbert. In the third round, Trinaldo leveled Herbert with an overhand left. The impact clearly left Herbert unconcious, but Dean neglected to stop the action, leaving Trinaldo to land two additional and concussive strikes.
