Rose Namajunas on Joanna Jedrzejczyk: “she just makes herself sound stupid”

UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas is now 2-0 over former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. That said, Jedrzejczyk remains adamant that she, not the reigning champ, is the best strawweight in the game.

In the past, Rose Namajunas has said the only way she’ll give Joanna Jedrzejczyk another rematch is if Jedrzejczyk acknowledges that the new champ is the better fighter. Jedrzejczyk, however, has assured this is something she’ll never do.

“I will not do this,” Jedrzejczyk said bluntly at the UFC on FOX 30 post-fight press conference. “Never ever.”

This isn’t a problem for Rose Namajunas. In her opinion, the former champion isn’t doing herself any kind of favors with comments of this kind.

“It don’t really bother me,” Namajunas recently told MMA Fighting. “I know at this point it just kind of sounds silly. The more she talks, the more she just makes herself sound stupid. For me, I like to just try and be positive about everything as much as possible. Of course, you can get dragged into silly shit. I just remind myself that she was a great champion. I looked up to her at one point in my life for a reason and I just try and remember what she did for the sport and just kind of leave it at that. She was a great champion, but now it’s my time. And eventually she’s gotta come to terms with that and be OK with it.”

In fact, Namajunas feels that Jedrzejczyk knows in her heart who the better fighter is.

“I think you can just look at her face after our second fight, just look at her face and know how she really felt,” Namajunas said. “Body language kind of shows more than what the words really say or mean. To me, it looked like she was trying to make herself believe in it, that she really won. When she really knew, at the end of the day, that I won the fight.”

Who do you consider the best strawweight on the planet? Current champion Rose Namajunas or former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk?
