Rose Namajunas wants “the scariest person” for her first title defense
Rose Namajunas wants “the scariest person” for her first title defense.
“Thug Rose” shocked the mixed martials arts world at November’s UFC 217 event in New York when she scored a brutal first-round knockout victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk, thus claiming the UFC’s coveted strawweight championship.
Namajunas recently discussed her dominant victory over Jedrzejczyk and had nothing but compliments for the former strawweight queen.
“Joanna, she was like the most dominant female, she was on her way to becoming bigger than Ronda (Rousey) in terms of her accomplishments.” Namajunas told MMA Fighting. “So to me, it’s just a testament to how great she was and the fact that I beat her, that’s just awesome.”
Rose continued:
“I don’t think that people were necessarily sleeping on me, I just think that she was definitely very impressive.”
Rose Namajunas is now focused on making her first title defense, and is looking at three different women as being her next potential opponent.
“For me, who is the scariest person that I could fight, I think that would be cool. To me, what sticks out as of right now is Jessica Andrade, but at the same time a rematch with Joanna would be great too. I don’t know. The three options right now would be Joanna, or the winner of Jessica Andrade vs. Tecia Torres.”
Jessica Andrade and Tecia Torres will square off at next month’s UFC on FOX event in Orland, Florida. The winner of that contest will likely solidify their status as the strawweight divisions top contender.
