SUG 8 Live Results

Portland, Oregon’s Roseland Theater has set the stage once again for another exciting night of grappling action as Submission Underground is back.

After a hiatus, Chael Sonnen brought back his grappling extravaganza with a stacked SUG 8 card that sees many of the usual clashes of MMA vets going at it.

On this evening we’re treated to an interesting main event between the highly touted Bellator welterweight prospect, Austin Vanderford as he takes on the perpetually underrated former Strikeforce middleweight king, Jake Shields.

Directly prior to that will be another meeting of welterweights but this time a UFC rematch. It’s the recently retired Jake Ellenberger taking on The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner, Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez. The two fought in a fight of the night headliner in 2012 that saw Ellenberger leave with the unanimous decision victory.

And it wouldn’t be a grappling event without some heavyweight action. Originally, it was supposed to be former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir set to take on the master behind Gracie Barra Portland himself, Fabiano Scherner. Mir would be replaced by UFC and Bellator veteran, Matt Mitrione.

Also on tap is the former Strikeforce lightweight ruler, Gilbert Melendez going against fellow Strikeforce veteran, Pat Healy. The two were actually supposed to meet in September 2012 with Melendez defending his title. The champion would, unfortunately, suffer an injury that prevented the fight from ever happening… until now that is!

And last but not least, Australia’s BJJ wizard, Craig Jones will attempt to dispatch of the ultra-experienced MMA veteran, Dennis Hallman.
