UFC 212 Bonus Report

Brian Kelleher

‘UFC 212’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil delivered with some memorable fights and solid finishes.

With that said, UFC President Dana White handed out three “Performance of the night” awards at tonight’s UFC 212 post fight press conference.

Those $50,000 ‘UFC 212’ bonuses went to the following fighters:

Performance of the night bonus – Brian Kelleher earned an extra $50k for his first-round submission victory over home country favorite Iuri Alcantara. The Brazilian shot in for a takedown midway through the first-round but Brian was able to lock in a guillotine choke during the shot. A few seconds and a hard squeeze later and Alcantara was forced to tapout. Brian called for a “life changing” bonus in his post-fight interview and the UFC brass granted him his wish.

Performance of the night bonus – Claudia Gadelha earned a performance of the night bonus for her first-round submission victory over fellow former division title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The Brazilian was able to take the Polish fighter down in the early minutes of the opening round and promptly took the back of Karolina. Shortly after taking “KK’s” back, Gadelha locked in both hooks and then secured a tight rear-naked choke which forced Karolina to tapout.

Fight of the night bonus – Max Holloway and Jose Aldo each pocketed an extra $50K for their epic UFC 212 main event. The hometown favorite, Jose Aldo, had a strong opening round which saw him stun his Hawaiian foe on a couple of occasions. However, by the end of round two it was clear that the tide was turning in Holloway’s favor. In round three, “Blessed” was able to connect with a right hand that sent Aldo crashing to the canvas. Holloway quickly secured full mount and began raining down punches. Although Aldo showed a ton of heart, he just couldn’t recover from the onslaught and the referee eventually stepped in to call the contest.
