Lawler (30-16 MMA) was making his final walk to the Octagon this evening in Las Vegas. The former UFC welterweight champion entered his last fight looking to rebound, this after suffering a TKO loss to Bryan Barberena in his most previous effort at UFC 276. Prior to his setback to ‘Bam Bam’, ‘Ruthless’ had earned a TKO victory over fellow MMA legend Nick Diaz at UFC 266.

The Octagon remains in Nevada for tonight’s UFC 290 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Alex Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez. Volkanovski (25-2 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since suffering a razor close decision loss to Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title back in February. That setback snapped the Aussie’s incredible 22-fight win streak. Prior to his controversial loss to Makhachev, ‘The Great’ had successfully defended his featherweight title for a fourth time by defeating Max Holloway at UFC 276.

Dricus Du Plessis is fully focused on Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 but knows a matchup against Israel Adesanya would be massive. Du Plessis is set to take on Whittaker in a title eliminator bout with the winner expected to face Adesanya in September. Although it is a quick turnaround, Dricus Du Plessis says if the fight plays out as he expects he will be ready to fight Israel Adesanya for the belt in Australia. He also knows if that is the matchup, it will be a massive fight for the UFC.

Dricus Du Plessis is ready to make a statement at UFC 290. Du Plessis is set to take on Robert Whittaker in a title eliminator fight on the main card in Las Vegas on Saturday. While the booking admittedly came as a bit of a surprise, the South African was fine taking the fight as he wants to earn his title shot by beating the best.

Volkanovski jumped to 155 pounds to face the newly crowned champion, Islam Makhachev. Jones and Miocic were expected to collide at July’s UFC 290 pay-per-view event for Internation Fight Week. However, the Ultimate Fighting Championship recently announced that the July 6 fight card will be headlined by a featherweight title unification bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez.
