UFC Fight Night 114 Results: Sam Alvey defeats Rashad Evans via split-decision (Highlights)

A middleweight scrap between former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and Sam Alvey took place during tonight’s UFC Fight Night 114 main card in Mexico.

Round one begins and Alvey takes the center of the octagon. Rashad fakes a jab and then circles off of the fence. Evans re-establishes himself and then throws a low kick that lands. Evans shoots in for a double-leg takedown attempt but Alvey is able to defend. Sam with a good knee inside from the clinch position. Rashad rips a right hand to the body. Evans drops down for another takedown attempt but Sam once again is able to defend the shot. Alvey with a nice elbow from the clinch. He follows that up with a knee to the body of Evans. Rashad once again shoots and this time he is able to drag Alvey to the floor. Sam quickly works his way back up to his feet. He fires off a nice knee and then presses Rashad against the cage. The fighters break and Evans circles out. Alvey charges forward with a combination that misses. Rashad replies with a right hand that partially lands. Thirty seconds remain in round one. Alvey charges forward with a right hand. Round one comes to an end.

Round two begins and Alvey starts off quickly with a combination. Rashad fires off a hard kick to the body. Alvey eats it and presses forward. He lands a right hand. Another right hand from Alvey. Rashad circles and then charges in with a combination that ends in a left. Evans tries to go upstairs with a head kick but it is blocked by Sam. Alvey lands a nice straight left. He follows that up with a right hand. Evans circles out. Sam’s corner is telling him to pressure Evans now. Rashad with a left. Alvey counters with a right. Evans shoots in and scores with a takedown. Alvey bounces right back to his feet. Evans has him pressed against the cage. Alvey lands a knee. Evans drops down in search of a takedown. Alvey defends and lands another knee. One minute remains in round two. Alvey lands a knee and then breaks free of the clinch. Sam is walking down Evans now. Rashad continues to circles along the fence. Alvey throws a right hand. He lands a knee as Rashad attempts to shoot in. Round two comes to an end.

Round three begins and Rashad lands a good low kick. Alvey is walking him down early here. Sam with a nice right hand. Rashad tries to respond with one of his own but Sam counters him with a left hook. Alvey is trying to cut Rashad off. He comes forward with a right. Alvey and Rashad tie up in the clinch. Sam with a knee and then they break. Under three minutes remain. Alvey is pressing the pace. He lands a left. Rashad misses with a wild right. Another right hand from Rashad lands. He shoots in for a takedown but Alvey stuffs the attempt. Sam continues to press the action. Rashad with a body shot. Alvey lands a right hand. Both men look tired. Sam lands a left hand. Rashad fires back with a massive right hand. Somehow Alvey ate that punch. Sam continues to press forward. Rashad circles along the cage and then shoots in for a takedown. Alvey is defending well. He lands a knee and then another. More knees from Alvey. Rashad drops for a single leg. He cannot secure the takedown. They break and Rashad lands a right. Alvey charges forward but the horn sounds to end round three.
