Floyd Mayweather lectures Khabib Nurmagomedov: ‘You must conduct yourself like a professional’

By Tom Taylor - October 17, 2018

Floyd Mayweather saw the frenzied brawl that unfurled shortly after Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor at UFC 229, and he’s not impressed. In his eyes, it’s important for fighters to comport themselves like professionals, inside and outside the ring.

The undefeated boxer, who has recently been mentioned as a potential opponent for Khabib Nurmagomedov, discussed the UFC champion’s post-fight actions in a recent interview with TMZ.

“I see on IG and on social media, he put, I think, he’ll fight [me], but he don’t want to fight in Vegas,” Mayweather said (transcript via MMA Fighting) “Of course we know, Vegas is the fighting capital, and after the fight, you have to conduct yourself like a true professional, not just in the ring, but outside of the ring also. You must conduct yourself like a professional, and it was a big melee. I haven’t had a chance to see it, but from what I heard it was a crazy melee.”

Floyd Mayweather also responded to a bit of Khabib Nurmagomedov trash talk, in which the UFC champ bragged about dropping Conor McGregor in their fight — something Mayweather was unable to do when he fought the Irishman.

“I see on the interview, when he hit Conor McGregor he knocked him down and I didn’t knock Conor McGregor down,” Mayweather said. “But, okay so Khabib, you got my leftovers. Whoop dee doo.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov called out Floyd Mayweather shortly after his win over McGregor. While most members of the combat sports community rightfully doubt this bizarre matchup will ever happen, Mayweather is insistent that it will.

“Oh, we’re fighting,” he said. “I’m my own boss. I can’t say what’s going on on Khabib’s end, but on my end, we can make it happen.

Do you think Floyd Mayweather is in the position to be criticizing Khabib Nurmagomedov?
