Floyd Mayweather says he will rematch Conor McGregor after fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov
Undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has recently been linked to a boxing match with undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Apparently, Mayweather is also hoping to rematch former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor down the road.
Floyd Mayweather called for rematch with Conor McGregor, who he bested in a 2017 boxing match, in a recent interview with TMZ.
“McGregor was talking that shit so it ain’t over,” he said. “After Me and Khabib we lock-up, me and McGregor going to lock-up again.”
Mayweather then clarified that the reason he’s interested in fighting the UFC’s biggest stars is that these crossover fights generate huge viewership and payday.
“They say, ‘why you keep fighting all them MMA guys?’ – man listen, me and Khabib going to do crazy numbers, me and McGregor going to do crazy numbers,” he said. “I only clash with guy that can do crazy numbers.”
Apparently, Floyd Mayweather expects a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov to be even more lucrative than his fight with Conor McGregor was.
“When I face Khabib, I’m getting a nine-figure payday. It’s more than the McGregor fight – probably $100 million more, guaranteed. It could be somewhere between $110 [million] and $200 million guaranteed.”
While the prospect of Mayweather boxing Nurmagomedov seems very unlikely, McGregor has previously stated he’s interested in a rematch with the undefeated boxer.
“I would like to box him again,” the Irish MMA star recently told ESPN.
One thing to note is that Floyd Mayweather also recently claimed he’s coming out of retirement to rematch Manny Pacquiao. How exactly he plans to fit fights with Nurmagomedov, McGregor and Pacquiao into his schedule remains to be seen.
