Jon Jones sends a message to Chris Weidman, ‘The All American’ responds

Former UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman recently announced his move up to 205-pounds, and he already has the attention of light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones.

Shortly after Weidman announced that he would be moving up a weight class, a fan took to Twitter where he suggested how much fun a fight between Jon Jones and the former middleweight title holder would be.

“I would love to see @chrisweidman vs. @JonnyBones,” the user wrote. “That would be great.”

Jones would later respond to the tweet with the following message for Chris Weidman.

“Chris knows where I’ll be waiting.”

Jon Jones will return to the octagon at July’s UFC 239 pay-per-view event where he will attempt to defend his light heavyweight title against dangerous knockout artist Thiago Santos.

Jon Jones was last seen in action at UFC 235, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Smith. Prior to that, ‘Bones’ had defeated Alexander Gustafsson via third round knockout at UFC 232.

Chris Weidman would later catch wind of Jones’ message and responded to the reigning division champion with the following.

“On my way!”

Weidman (14-4 MMA) has not competed since November’s UFC 230 event in New York, where he suffered a knockout loss to Jacare Souza. ‘The All American’ has gone just 1-4 over his past five fights, with his lone win in that time coming over Kelvin Gastelum via submission.

Chris Weidman believes he has the tools on paper to dethrone Jon Jones.

“Honestly, I think I bring a lot of problems to the table with my wrestling and jiu-jitsu, and also I’m long, and I have power in my hands,” Weidman said. “Especially at 205, that might be a benefit for me. I think I’ll hit even harder. My wrestling and jiu-jitsu, on paper, is better than his.”

Jon Jones later scoffed at that idea.
