Conor McGregor has moved up the UFC rankings in the welterweight & lightweight divisions as well as the pound-for-pound rankings. The presence of McGregor in the rankings during his two big stints away from the sport between UFC 205 & UFC 229 and UFC 229 & UFC 246 certainly divided the opinion of fans, and now, it feels as if there’s going to be even more uproar than before in the wake of the rankings being released.

A new report says that metrics for UFC 246, which was headlined by Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone, indicate the event did equivalent to two million buys under the old system. Veteran MMA scribe Dave Meltzer said that McGregor vs. Cerrone would have done two million PPV buys under the old system, when PPVs were available on multiple platforms instead of just ESPN+. In particular, Adesanya says he was impressed with McGregor’s shoulder strikes near the beginning of the fight that badly hurt Cerrone, leading to a quick finish. Adesanya is one of the most creative strikers in the sport, so that’s quite a compliment for McGregor to hear.
