Report | Yoel Romero Out of UFC Fort Lauderdale Main Event
According to a report from Brazilian media outlet AgFight, Yoel Romero is out of the UFC Fort Lauderdale main event due to an illness.
The report states that Romero contracted pneumonia in the weeks leading up to the fight, causing him to withdraw from his headlining bout against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
The report states that Souza has been left opponentless, and it is unknown at this time whether he’ll remain on the card.
The bout between Romero and Jacare was going to be a rematch of their split decision bout at UFC 194 in late 2015.
Yoel Romero has not fought since June, when he engaged in a “Fight of the Year” candidate against champion Robert Whittaker.
Following a split decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum, “Jacare” rebounded in a major way at UFC 230 in November, knocking out Chris Weidman to earn “Fight of the Night” honors.
