UFC Philadelphia | Karolina Kowalkiewicz says the UFC gave her a new nickname without telling her

If you look at the lineup for this weekend’s UFC Philadelphia card, you’ll see that Michelle Waterson is set to battle former strawweight title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz, UFC 228

Ahead of this compelling fight, the UFC has been referring to Kowalkiewicz as the “Polish Princess.” She says the UFC made this nickname up for her, and she didn’t find out about it until she saw it in UFC Philadelphia promotional material.

MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn has the details:

“About that new ‘Polish Princess’ nickname for Karolina Kowalkiewicz? She tells me the UFC made it up for her and she has not idea where it came from before seeing it on a promotional graphic,” Bohn reported on Twitter.

At UFC Philadelphia, Karolina Kowalkiewicz will look to rebound from a brutal knockout loss to top contender Jessica Andrade. This loss was preceded by a pair of wins over Felice Herrig and Jodie Esquibel, and two losses to Claudia Gadelha and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The so-called “Polish Princess” is 12-3 overall.

Michelle Waterson, on the other hand, will enter this fight with a 16-6 overall record. She’ll step into the cage in Philly on a two-fight streak, having recently beaten Felice Herrig and Cortney Casey.

UFC Philadelphia will be headlined by a lightweight gun fight between all action contenders Justin Gaethje and Edson Barboza.

What do you think of this new nickname for Karolina Kowalkiewicz? Do you think the UFC should have told her about it before using it?
