VIDEO | Andre Berto explains what it’s like fighting Floyd Mayweather
As reports have continued to emerge regarding a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight, fight fans have continued to be split regarding who they feel will win the fight.
While some feel as though Mayweather’s dominance will continue, as his experience, speed, and defense will keep McGregor from handing the self proclaimed ‘Best Ever’ his first loss. On the other hand, some feel as though McGregor’s power and precision will result in a triumphant transition to boxing for the UFC superstar.
During a recent interview Andre Berto, who fought Mayweather in 2015, spoke about what it’s like stepping into the ring with one of the greatest boxers of all time. Read part of it below, and see the full video above!
“He’s just very elusive…I was just so surprised at his age how just alert he was…he thinks defensive first, all of us think offense first like ‘Okay, gotta get it, gotta get it.’ He always thinks defense first, he’s always looking, looking, looking, looking, and he kind of puts you in a place of, me being in there, I was in great shape just throwing and throwing, but he puts you in a place where he’s so defensive and elusive, and you’re steady punching, and you keep swinging, and you see him looking at you. So he kind of puts you in a place of ‘okay if I keep swinging too much, I’m going to hang myself out there to get hit’ because he’s seeing, he’s seeing, he’s seeing all this! He’s very smart at dictating the pace. He manages his time like 4 times during a round, move around, move around, look at the clock, tie you up. Bop bop, he’ll hit you two or three times, just enough to win the round & make his way up & outta that round. Between every round, he’s looking at you to see if you’re breathing hard, if you’re getting tired. He’s very observant of everything that’s going on…he just knows every part of that ring.”
