Five-time World’s Strongest Man champion Mariusz Pudzianowski has found a new home in the sport of mixed martial arts. After winning the World’s Strongest Man competition numerous times, the intimidating Polish athlete found a new passion for competition in combat sports.
Another giant athlete that transitioned to the sport of mixed martial arts is Bob Sapp, who had a short stint in the NFL as a professional football player. Sapp then went on to entertain in the world of professional wrestling and then took up kickboxing and mixed martial arts, gaining a big fan base fighting in Japanese shows such as PRIDE.
Here we take a look at the KSW 19 – Pudzianowski vs. Sapp event that took place back in 2012.
The two giant athletes caught a lot of attention with their intense weigh-in staredown and let it all go in the ring. Once the first punch was thrown in the first round, it was all action from there.
Pudzianowski flurried strikes off as Sapp did his best to trade but found himself more on the defense as the five-time World’s Strongest Man champion connected with some vicious knees. Pudzianowski landed a takedown where he stood above Sapp and hammered down strikes on his downed opponent and the referee was forced to stop the fight. However, it took a bit of effort on the referees part as the former World’s Strongest Man continued with his offensive attack for a while after the referee intervened.
Mariusz Pudzianowski holds a 10-5 record and most recently fought Pawel Mikolajuw at KSW 37 – Circus of Pain earlier this month where he won by TKO in the very first round. Pudzianowski already is set to fight at the KSW event taking place in Poland on May 27.
Bob Sapp now has an 11-20 professional MMA record and recently came out of retirement this year. Sapp fought Aori Gele at ROAD FC 32, where he lost by TKO in the very first round. Sapp works as the vice president of public relations for Road FC and also works as a ringside announcer for the promotion.
