VIDEO | Dana White reveals shattering Mayweather vs McGregor pay-per-view buy numbers

Many believed that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor would be the richest fight in the history of combat sports by breaking the 2015 records that Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio set in 2015. Although not a sellout for the attendance at the event, Floyd Mayweather said during the post-fight press conference that they did break the record for the gate and also the pay-per-view record he and Pacquiao set in their fight.

“We did break the record tonight for the biggest gate,” Mayweather stated at the post-fight press conference via MMA Weekly. “Me and Pacquiao done $72 million. I think we done somewhere over $80 million in the live gate (with McGregor).”

Issues with pay-per-view servers crashing had Mayweather and McGregor’s walkout for their fight slightly delayed. With the millions of people tuning in, Mayweather said they surpassed his 2015 record where he and Pacquiao brought in over 4.6 million pay-per-view buys.

“Tonight, we broke the Pacquiao pay-per-view number,” Mayweather said. “All I’m doing is breaking my own records.”

It seems UFC President Dana White has got a good idea of the pay-per-view numbers. In this video clip from Urijah Faber’s Instagram story via MMA Junkie’s Chamatkar Sandhu, White told Faber and Snoop Dogg that they obliterated the Mayweather vs Pacquiao record by a huge margin as they talk about numbers being near 6.5 million pay-per-view buys.

McGregor stated previously that if they surpass the Mayweather and Pacquiao numbers, he would make over $100 million. Mayweather, on the other hand, said he had a good chance of making over $300 million in this fight. With pay-per-view numbers in the insane range of 6.5 million buys, these two prize fighters will likely hold this record and a few dollars for quite some time.
