VIDEO | Floyd Mayweather Sr. recites poem for Conor McGregor
There is no bigger story in combat sports today than that of a potential boxing mega fight between undefeated great Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Whether it’s a cause for cautious optimism that the fight will actually happen, a reason to believe it probably won’t, a combat sports personality offering their take on who will win, or a bit of trash talk between their two camps, this ongoing narrative generates dozens of new headlines every week.
Don’t expect that to stop.
The latest development in this McGregor – Mayweather saga comes from reporter Helen Yee, who recently spoke to Mayweather’s father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., about McGregor and this possible fight.
In his latest interview with Yee, the elder Mayweather surprised by delivering a poem – or maybe a rap – to McGregor. We would transcribe this poem for you, but reading a printed version of it would deprive you of its beautiful cadence. So, check it out in the video at the top of this post!
Though McGregor has not been seen in action in 2017, he had a busy 2016. In his first fight of the year, he was upset by Nate Diaz, who would become his biggest rival. In his next fight, which occurred in August, he avenged this loss to Diaz, scoring a majority decision in one of the year’s very best fights. In his most recent fight, which occurred at UFC 205 in November, when the UFC debuted in New York City, McGregor authored a gorgeous, second-round knockout win over Eddie Alvarez, which earned him the UFC lightweight title.
Mayweather, meanwhile, was last seen in the ring in September of 2015, when he moved to 49-0 with a defeat of Andre Berto. His other recent wins include decision defeats of Manny Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
What do you think of this poem that the elder Mayweather wrote for Conor McGregor? Sound off, PENN Nation!
