VIDEO | Joe Lauzon and Diego Sanchez grappling troops
While the UFC hasn’t done a ‘Fight for the Troops’ card recently, UFC lightweight veterans Diego Sanchez and Joe Lauzon recently went over to Iraq and visited with troops.
Despite the men having no mats to train, they attempted to assemble rubber floor tiles in a makeshift grappling area. While the floor continues to come apart throughout the grappling sessions, the two men both get some grappling in with the troops in an awesome video which can be seen above!
Lauzon, who possesses arguably some of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the UFC, managed to control his opponent throughout the course of the friendly grappling exchange, taking the mans back early on before securing mount, and then ultimately winding up with his opponents back once again.
Sanchez on the other hand swept his opponent early on before then being swept himself about midway through the grappling exchange. He then manages to secure a triangle armbar as the soldier taps.
Lauzon of course is coming off a majority decision loss to Stevie Ray, which sent the UFC vet back to the loss column after a controversial split decision win over Marcin Held that saw Lauzon openly admit that he believed he lost the fight. Following the controversial win, Lauzon promised that he would be “harassing” UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby to not cut Held, who dropped his second straight loss with the loss to Lauzon.
Diego Sanchez on the other hand is coming off a 1st round KO loss to Al Iaquinta back at ‘UFC Fight Night: Nashville’ which, similarly to Lauzon, returned him to the loss column after a decision win over Marcin Held back at the Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale back in November of 2016.
At the present time, neither man has a fight booked, however both men will be looking to return to the win column in their next respective scraps.
