VIDEO | Paulie Malignaggi admits sparring got ‘very dirty’ with a ‘not very likable’ Conor McGregor
It’s now clear that Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi are not in training camp together to build any friendship. In fact, Malignaggi said just that while recently speaking on the Dan Patrick Show with talks of their first sparring session that sounded like it was more of an actual fight than a training session.
Longtime referee Joe Cortez who has worked some massive bouts throughout his career said that the sparring session between McGregor and Malignaggi “got a little rough” and even needed to call time after things were getting a little too out of control as both competitors were jawing at one another.
“Yeah, I’ll be honest,” said Malignaggi (at 4:42 of the video). “It got a little rough, it got a little tense, it got I’d say dirty, very dirty even in spots of the sparring.
“He brings his game face into sparring. He’s not very likable. I gotta bet I’m not very likable a lot of times in there. Also, there were some words in the media we’d said about each other before we even came to camp so I’m sure it all came to a head on in the sparring.
“I’m sure it’ll come to a head again today during sparring,” Malignaggi said. “I’m not here to be friends with anybody and I’ve certainly seen the way he’s been with his sparring partners. He’s definitely not here to be friends with any of his sparring partners. So by that equation, I expect another good one today.”
Surely some great moments going down in the Conor McGregor camp that people would pay good money to see if the action is anything like how the members from camp are mentioning.
