Yoel Romero just shocked the crowd at Madison Square Garden by scoring a highlight reel third-round knockout victory over Chris Weidman. The Cuban sent Weidman crashing to the canvas after landing a brutal flying knee in the early second of the third-round and then followed up with some punches forcing the referee to step in. In advance of this pivotal showdown, the Cuban contender joined Chris Taylor on BJPenn.com’s Rapid Fire where he discussed a number of different topics including which champions he thought would retain their respective titles tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden. “I believe that Conor McGregor will become the first fighter to carry two belts simultaneously in UFC history. I do believe that Tyron Woodley is going to successfully defend his title against Stephen Thompson. I think he will win this one for sure. As for Joanna. I believe she will continue to dominate that weight class for a long time to come.”

Since winning the UFC middleweight title with a June decimation of Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping has received plenty of flack for his alleged tendency to pick and choose his opponents. Instead of taking on a legitimate contender in his first defense, the Brit took on a 46-year-old Dan Henderson in an effort to avenge an ugly 2009 knockout loss. Once this title defense was in the books, Bisping set his sights on title fights with Georges St-Pierre, a welterweight who has not fought in several years, and Nick Diaz, a welterweight riding a similar layoff who has not won a fight since 2o11. The champ then found himself on the receiving end of some serious fan backlash when he refused to fight top middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the same time frame. Though the champ has since done his best to justify his callouts of GSP and Diaz, and subsequent reluctance to fight Jacare, many fans are disappointed with his selectiveness in terms of possible opponents.

On November 12, on the main card of the massively hyped UFC 205, former middleweight champion Chris Weidman will take on streaking former Olympian Yoel Romero. The winner of this bout could well receive the next crack at Michael Bisping’s middleweight title. In advance of this high-stakes middleweight showdown, Weidman has thrown a handful of accusations Romero’s way, most of which surround the former Olympian’s early-2016 brush with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Though this controversy was ultimately deemed to be the result of a tainted supplement, Weidman still has doubts that Romero is a clean fighter.

Yoel Romero is standing his ground. The UFC middleweight contender is affirming his innocence after testing positive for banned substances, which resulted in failing an out-of-competition drug test back in December. Romero and his legal team have claimed that the UFC middleweight took a dietary supplement that unknowingly was tainted with banned substances.

It was announced last month that UFC middleweight #1 contender Yoel Romero had failed a drug test following his fight with Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC 194 in December. Romero was suspended indefinitely while the UFC and USADA made sense of the situation before the NSAC set a date for a hearing with the NSAC.
