In the buildup to Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo’s planned UFC 189 featherweight title fight (which was ultimately rescheduled for UFC 194), the UFC carted the two stars off on an international media tour, stopping in cities in Ireland, Brazil, the United States, and Canada. From the sounds of it, McGregor’s much discussed boxing match with undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. will received a similar treatment. Speaking on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Showtime Sports Executive Vice President Stephen Espinoza explained that he expects Mayweather and McGregor to do some traveling together in advance of their fight.

Unsurprisingly, the combat sports community began to split in regards to predictions for the fight. While some believe that Mayweather’s experience and defensive prowess will result in his undefeated streak extending to 50-0, others believe that McGregor’s size and power will lead to a shocking finish that sees Mayweather handed his first professional loss.

The pair will collide at a catchweight of 154 pounds. They will battle for up to 12 rounds in 10 oz. gloves. Unsurprisingly, this news sent a quake through the combats worlds, as fans, journalists, and McGregor and Mayweather’s fellow fighters took to social media to share their elation, their disappointment, or their (feigned) disinterest.

You read that headline correctly. According to both Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, and Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review Journal, the much discussed boxing mega fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is a done deal. This fight will reportedly occur on August 26, in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, though the venue could apparently still change to the new T-Mobile Arena. According to the aforementioned reports, Mayweather will confirm this fight on his social media accounts as early as today. McGregor, meanwhile, can be expected to make his announcements shortly thereafter.

Wednesday morning, Mayweather Promotions request to promote an unspecified boxing event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was put back on the agenda after being removed from the agenda earlier in the week. News surfaced earlier in the week revealing that Mayweather promotions was planning to request the MGM Grand Garden Arena for August 26th for an unspecified event, however their request was pulled shortly after, with ESPN’s Dan Rafael explaining that once Mayweather and McGregor have a deal, they can then request to reserve the MGM Grand. This reaffirmed the fact that Mayweather had not signed a contract to fight McGregor.

According to these rumors, the fight is being targeted for August 26, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena – not the new T-Mobile Arena. While neither was willing to confirm or deny thee rumors, both seemed to think they made sense.

Despite that, Mayweather has yet to sign his end of the contract, leading Conor McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov to question whether or not Mayweather truly wants to fight.
