Over the next 10 weeks, we can expect SHOWTIME Boxing, Mayweather promotions, The UFC, and other massive organizations to dig deep into their pockets to promote this fight, ensuring that it does indeed go down as the biggest fight in combat sports history. While we haven’t seen much in the way of promotional video just yet, SHOWTIME boxing, who will be promoting this landmark pay-per-view, have already released a poster for the fight, and it’s a cool one.

After months of conflicting rumors and reports, undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor have signed on the dotted line. The two will meet in the boxing ring on August 28, inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Their fight will occur at 154 pounds. They will fight in 10 oz. gloves for a maximum of 12 rounds. Unsurprisingly, the news that this fight had been made official sent a shockwave through the combat sports world. Many fans, pundits and fighters celebrated it. Others criticized it, calling it a freak show, and pointing out the disastrous implications it could have for both MMA and boxing. And then there are those that want a piece of the pie…

The fight is now official. UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to battle undefeated great Floyd Mayweather this August 28 at the T-Mobile Arena in the combat sports mecca of Las Vegas, Nevada. The pair will collide at a catchweight of 154 pounds. They will battle for up to 12 rounds in 10 oz. gloves. Unsurprisingly, this news sent a quake through the combats worlds, as fans, journalists, and McGregor and Mayweather’s fellow fighters took to social media to share their elation, their disappointment, or their (feigned) disinterest.

Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather posted on social media today amidst reports of his boxing match with Conor McGregor being finalized today to reveal that his superfight with Conor McGregor is indeed official. Earlier in the day, the NSAC approved Mayweather Promotions request to promote an unspecified event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on August 26th, which was then followed up by a report from Yahoo Sports that the fight had been finalized.

Wednesday morning, Mayweather Promotions request to promote an unspecified boxing event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena was put back on the agenda after being removed from the agenda earlier in the week. News surfaced earlier in the week revealing that Mayweather promotions was planning to request the MGM Grand Garden Arena for August 26th for an unspecified event, however their request was pulled shortly after, with ESPN’s Dan Rafael explaining that once Mayweather and McGregor have a deal, they can then request to reserve the MGM Grand. This reaffirmed the fact that Mayweather had not signed a contract to fight McGregor.

According to these rumors, the fight is being targeted for August 26, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena – not the new T-Mobile Arena. Speaking to Helen Yee, Mayweather’s uncle Jeff Mayweather, and one of his proteges Kevin Newman weighed in on these rumors. While neither was willing to confirm or deny thee rumors, both seemed to think they made sense.

White then revealed that with McGregor’s side of the deal done, he would now move to negotiating with Floyd Mayweather’s team. Since then, there have been no further updates regarding the status of a potential McGregor-Mayweather showdown. With that being said however, UFC President Dana White recently spoke to the press in New York to reveal that while the percentages haven’t been discussed, he is confident that a deal will be reached. With Mayweather promoting his world champion fighter Gervonta Davis over the weekend in the title boxing match against Liam Walsh, a lot of buzz still surrounded Mayweather’s anticipated return to the boxing ring. Mayweather was asked in the ring following Davis’ third round TKO win, what the chances are that he and Conor McGregor will actually fight. Mayweather replied that he thinks the fight will happen and would like to have his young star fighters on the undercard.
