Until recently, this history-making showdown has resided firmly in the realm of the hypothetical. When UFC President Dana White made what he called “a real offer” of $25 million to Mayweather, however, that changed. The wheels were decidedly in motion.

In early 2017, talks of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight picked up steam as Mayweather offered McGregor $15 million to accept the boxing match. While McGregor of course didn’t publicly fire back at Mayweather, UFC President Dana White was quick to make a counteroffer as he offered the undefeated prizefighter $25 million to fight McGregor, with McGregor also getting an even $25 million. Mayweather of course wasn’t satisfied with the $25 million dollar offer, and called UFC President Dana White a comedian as he reiterated that he would not fight for less than $100 million. While negotiations have begun between Floyd Mayweather and UFC President Dana White for a potential boxing superfight between Mayweather and UFC superstar Conor McGregor, there is still an extremely long road ahead before an agreement is reached. Mayweather started the year by offering McGregor $15 million for a boxing match, with the boxing icon leaving the door open to negotiations regarding the PPV split.

Talks have seriously heated up in regards to a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match in 2017. To kick off the year, Mayweather made McGregor a fight offer, offering the UFC superstar $15 million to fight, while leaving the door open to potentially giving the UFC lightweight champ a cut of the PPV sales. That offer didn’t sit too well with UFC President Dana White, who appeared on ‘The Herd’ this week to offer Mayweather $25 million to fight McGregor, while saying that the pair could talk about how the PPV sales would be split. Mayweather laughed off White’s offer, reiterating that he wouldn’t fight for less than $100 million, a figure he had mentioned consistently throughout the course of the last several months.

Leading up to Conor McGregor‘s UFC 205 scrap with Eddie Alvarez in November, where the Irish superstar captured the UFC lightweight championship, becoming the first ever simultaneous two-division UFC champion, and the third man in UFC history to hold championship belts in two weight classes, McGregor mentioned that if he were to emerge from the scrap victorious, he very well could be looking at moving to boxing for a superfight with Floyd Mayweather.
