Everything You Need to Know From the Conor McGregor Appearance in Glasgow

Justin Golightly - September 29, 2017

In Conor McGregor’s first major public appearance since his gigantic money fight with Floyd Mayweather, he was set to have an hour Q&A session on pay-per-view with Dan Hardy. That event was canceled for still unreported reasons, but his event tonight in Glasgow went off without a hitch. Will he compete in another boxing match? Is he really coming back to the UFC to fight Nate Diaz on St. Patrick’s Day 2018? What about Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson’s interim UFC lightweight title fight? The UFC ‘champ champ’ sure had a lot of subjects to discuss, but maybe too much to think about. https://twitter.com/SecretMovesMMA/status/913863496785436674

Mayweather vs McGregor Las Vegas bets smash boxing record but still pale in comparison to all-time record

Russell Ess - September 29, 2017

Millions of dollars were put on the line by those betting on the money fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Although the fight seems to have fallen short of the financials and pay-per-view buys of what is still the richest fight in combat sports in Mayweather vs Pacquiao, the “MayMac” fight did shatter one combat sports record in Las Vegas.

Tony Ferguson Says McGregor vs Diaz 3 Throws Out 'Everything UFC Stands For'

Justin Golightly - September 29, 2017

Tony Ferguson are just a week away from going to war together for the interim UFC lightweight title. Usually, this would give the victor a one-way ticket to fight the champion of their division in order to unify the titles. However, this isn’t happening, at least not yet. Every mention of Conor McGregor’s return fight suggests he’ll be fighting Nate Diaz to defend his lightweight title, maybe as early as March 2018. This is something that Ferguson just doesn’t think is right. “The next fight for Conor [McGregor] should be whoever wins this interim lightweight title. Regardless of winning or losing this, myself or if it’s Kevin Lee, that b-tch needs to defend or vacate and he needs to unify that belt. Anything else, with as far as him trying to fight Nate [Diaz] and everything else, that’s the bullsh-t rankings and everything else that the UFC stands for just [going] out the window, man.”

Kevin Lee: Conor McGregor just got beat up by a man that’s 40 years old and coming off of retirement

Russell Ess - September 28, 2017

Kevin Lee has the biggest fight of his career coming in just over a week as he will fight Tony Ferguson for the UFC interim lightweight title at UFC 216. While the two lightweights will battle for the interim title, Lee believes that this is the real lightweight title fight with Conor McGregor more of a business champ rather than a lightweight Ultimate Fighting Champion.

BREAKING | Conor McGregor's Coach Wants The Nate Diaz Fight on St. Paddy's Day 2018

Justin Golightly - September 27, 2017

Even before Conor McGregor stepped into the ring with Floyd Mayweather, the talk has been McGregor would come back to the UFC to fight Nate Diaz. Even other UFC fighters said it had to happen. Champ champ Conor McGregor said he wanted to fight before the end of this year, making it clear that the Diaz fight would take place in the lightweight division. Unfortunately, his coach has came out and said that UFC 219 will not happen, but has an even bigger date in mind to settle the trilogy. “[Conor McGregor fighting Nate Diaz on] December 30th is definitely not happening. I don’t know how these things get started, but they have a certain way of gaining momentum. I can also tell you that his manager [Audie Attar] rang me this morning saying that him and Conor had been in meetings all day. Obviously, tomorrow is when we would start to consider the date. If it was my choice, and I must stress that this is only my choice and that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, it would be Nate Diaz in March.”

Tom Taylor - September 27, 2017

The August 26 boxing match between undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor was widely expected to topple all previous combat sports records. Unfortunately, it’s fallen short in that regard. First, we learned that the so-called “money fight” failed to break the record for live gate, clocking in at $55,414,865.79, and failing to overtake Mayweather’s lucrative battle with Manny Pacquiao, which did a live gate of $70 million.

Conor McGregor‘s ties to the biggest money-making industries in the world just keep growing. He’s already a mogul, but througout his career has caught the eyes of a surprising number of people in the industry. He infamously got an embrace from Kanye West after his win over Nate Diaz, but it goes beyond that. Drake introduced him at the Toronto Mayweather/McGregor press conference, The Killers made a music video promoting his last fight, he was at Jennifer Lopez’s freakin’ birthday, and now he’s earned a new fan from a prominent English rock band. “I was first aware of [Conor McGregor] when we were on tour in Ireland. We had a night off, and we went to a pub one night in Cork. The pub was mobbed. If [McGregor]’s on, I’ll watch it the next day on repeat. He’s a dude. He’s an absolute dude. He makes me cry laughing when he’s [trash talking]. I was at Russell Brand’s wedding that day [during Mayweather/McGregor]. Russell kicked us all out at midnight. We came back to London and then as it was going on, I’m thinking, ‘It’s taking him 10 rounds! It’s unbelievable.’”

Miesha Tate explains why she'd favor Conor McGregor in fight against GSP

Tom Taylor - September 26, 2017

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is the biggest star in MMA today. Former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who is returning to action for a middleweight title fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 217, was previously regarded as the sport’s biggest star himself. Given that McGregor and St-Pierre are now both actively competing, and that they’ve both competed as welterweights in the past, a possible scrap between them is frequently discussed. This fight would register as one of the biggest fights in UFC history, if not the biggest fight in UFC history period.

The two UFC stars have won a fight each with Diaz submitting McGregor in their first fight at UFC 196 and then McGregor earning a majority decision in the rematch at UFC 202.

Jeremy Stephens Posts a Savage Belated Comeback to McGregor's Infamous Line

Justin Golightly - September 21, 2017

Jeremy Stephens was able to put on a great performance against scrappy veteran Gilbert Melendez at UFC 215, but there’s one exchange he’d like to forget. Back at the UFC 205 press conference, he tried to zing Conor McGregor on the spot by saying he’s the ‘hardest hitting 145er’ up there. Quick-witted McGregor clapped back by asking who the ‘fook’ was that speaking to him. The line has been memed, remixed, and quoted endlessly ever since. Just a couple of days ago, Stephens was even trolled by Korean Zombie on Twitter with it after calling him out. Finally, Stephens exacted his revenge.

Conor McGregor Could Address Congress About The Ali Act for MMA

Justin Golightly - September 21, 2017

Right after Conor McGregor hoisted two UFC titles above his head at UFC 205, he put on one of his signature suits and strolled to the post-fight press conference. It was there, celebration whiskey probably still on his breath, that he vowed he was coming back for a piece of the whole company. In the meantime, he ventured outside of the Octagon (while still under contract with the UFC) to have a multi-million dollar boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. A fight that reportedly put $30 million in McGregor’s pocket. This was 10 times the amount McGregor made in the UFC, which was still the highest for a single bout. However, his next fight could be with congress itself, using his powers of influence to change the sport for the better.

Olivier Aubin-Mercier Wants GSP to Call Out Conor McGregor

Justin Golightly - September 20, 2017

Everyone knows Georges St-Pierre touched down back into the UFC to challenge for the middleweight title against Michael Bisping. He’s gone on record saying that if he wins, he’s contractually obligated to defend against interim champ Robert Whittaker. If he loses, St-Pierre has said he will retire. Win or lose, his teammate Olivier Aubin-Mercier thinks that GSP should call out none-other than Conor McGregor for the biggest UFC fight of all time. “To tell you the truth, I would not [keep fighting], but Georges [St-Pierre] is truly a real fighter, a real warrior, a real inspiration. He may fight again, I’m not sure. I think what would be plausible is to call out Conor [McGregor] after [the fight with Michael Bisping]. That’s what I would do. Call out Conor. I think for the UFC, it’s a really smart fight to do too, since it’s a win-win of them. A win-win kind of, for the short time. If Georges wins, well, he’s the greatest fighter of all time. If Conor wins, he is too. And if GSP wins, I don’t think people would hold it against Conor.”

Intriguing odds released for a potential Conor McGregor vs Paulie Malignaggi bout

Russell Ess - September 20, 2017

Just when the dust started to settle between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi, bookies have brought up the two former sparring partners names up again for a fight. Malignaggi had previously called McGregor out to a boxing match when there was just talk of the UFC lightweight champion fighting the undefeated Mayweather. Interestingly, McGregor called upon Malignaggi to join his camp as a sparring partner to help him train for Mayweather when the fight was made official. Although it seems there may have been some ill intentions on McGregor’s side from the start, Malignaggi obliged and made his way to Las Vegas for McGregor’s U.S. leg of his training camp.
