Last night, UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor bravely stepped into the boxing ring with undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. While McGregor had some real success early on, he ultimately fatigued in the second half of the fight, at which point Mayweather turned up the heat to capture a 10th-round win. It was not, however, a clean KO. McGregor, was never out cold. In the moments after this massive fight, McGregor suggested that the stoppage might have been a bit early, and that he might have able to bounce back if he’d been given more time.

Yesterday evening current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather took to the scales to weigh in for tonight’s highly anticipated super fight. In the lead up to yesterday’s weigh ins, Floyd Mayweather and his team were adamant that “Mystic Mac” was struggling to make weight. The “Money Team” even predicted that the Irish superstar would fail in his attempt to make the 154-pound limit.

We’re so close now to the biggest fight of the century. Regardless of your opinion on the fight, the fighters, boxing, or MMA, Conor McGregor fighting Floyd Mayweather is gigantic and a ton of fun. Everything feels electric whether you’re in Vegas or not, but those actually in Sin City itself? It has be to absolute chaos. Irish and non-Irish McGregor fans alike have been notorious (pun intended) at every UFC event, now they are unleashed in record numbers. Swarms of hyped, screaming fight fanatics roaming the streets of the city that never sleeps. It looks like Dana White himself has gotten swept up in all the excitement from this fan-shot video. If you’ve seen his video blog, UFC’s Embedded series, or even just looked at his Twitter feed, you’d be hard-pressed to recall a time when Dana White was this excited. He’s a lifelong boxing fan and the UFC’s biggest superstar is just hours away from stepping into the ring with boxing’s greatest talent of our generation. Seeing him pink-faced screaming the, ahem, catchphrase that has gone viral during the event just shows how hyped he is to be involved in this. Props to him for giving fans the time of day as well.

Do you remember Rocky IV? It had some legendary training sequences. Sylvester Stallone grew a beard and he depicted Rocky going back to savage basics. He ran through snow, pushed plows, jerked on ropes, he had to get primal to fight his opponent. All this was set up to juxtapose Ivan Drago in a state-of-the-art facility, with cords hooked up to him while he was attached to lifting machines. Doctors were even there recording every result and change in his body. That’s kind of what Conor McGregor was doing down at the UFC Performance Institute to push himself to the next level in preparation for Floyd Mayweather. “It’s kind of common knowledge through social media and things like that, Conor has used our altitude chamber extensively. Ultimately what he’s trying to do is change his physiology somewhat. If you look at the work-rest ratio of boxing, it’s about 3-to-1. If you look at the work-rest ratio of a UFC fight, it’s about 1-to-4. It completely flips the physiology on its head, right? If you’re not familiar with the gentleman, over a 13-year boxing career, Chris Eubank Sr. was undefeated for all but three of those years. He held the  WBO middleweight and super-middleweight titles, charming fans and opponents all along the way. Hall of Fame boxing referee Joe Cortez has been a key player in Conor McGregor’s training camp for the big-money boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, which takes place on Saturday night. Cortez was brought in to referee the sparring sessions so “The Notorious” could get a firm grip on what can and cannot be legally done in the boxing ring. Conor McGregor hasn’t stepped through the ropes of the boxing ring yet to box Floyd Mayweather and we’re already talking about his next fight. However, this is all par of the course when a guy like McGregor has a bout coming up. Paul Malignaggi managed to get wrapped up in the fight build-up and eventually made it known he intended on fighting McGregor. Artem Lobov was quick to silence that, of course it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Back in the UFC, McGregor dropped hints that his next fight would be with Nate Diaz to finish out the trilogy. We know with Conor, nothing can be that simple though, so do the bookeepers. Betway just dropped the odds on who the Champ Champ could fight next.

Conor McGregor has already dropped some major hints at his next fight. He’s put his foot down time and time again saying he fully intends to fight in the UFC at the end of the year, where all signs point to a trilogy fight with none other than Nate Diaz. Both his previous fights with Diaz weren’t for a belt, nor were they even in McGregor’s weight class, they were prizefights for money and pride. That’s all well and good for McGregor, but not good for Tony Ferguson. El Cucuy is scheduled to fight Kevin Lee at UFC 216 for the interim UFC lightweight title, since Khabib Nurmagomedov is perpetually inconsistent and McGregor is off ‘playing grab ass’ in a boxing ring. Needless to say, Tony Ferguson isn’t happy when he talked to media about the buzz that McGregor will come back to fight Diaz instead of him. Ever since Conor McGregor’s little 8lb 14oz at t baby has been born, the Champ Champ has been carrying him around like a football wherever he goes. Conor Jack McGregor Jr. even has his own Instagram account with over 75K followers. McGregor seems like a dutiful father who intends on letting his little one see all the lights and splendor of the life he’s earned through his unprecedented 4-year run in the UFC and now his fight with Floyd Mayweather. This is the song that never ends, Paul Malignaggi just keeps getting worse and worse, my friends. Late last night, it was “revealed” that Malignaggi may have been used by Floyd Mayweather to infiltrate Conor McGregor’s camp. This may have been one of the decisions that backfired against Mayweather, because Malignaggi ended up locked into all of this drama. From what we’ve seen so far, just a few clips and some word of mouth, Malignaggi didn’t do too well in sparring. That infamous knockdown clip (and the brutal straight left before that) sent shockwaves through the internet. Well, the talk continued and never stopped, now there are even more clips that just dropped last night. …They don’t make Malignaggi look any better.

It happens every fight. We all have done it. He’s too fast, we say. The ground game will be his downfall. This guy will finally be the guy who beats Conor McGregor, the media writes. It’s happened through Dustin Poirier, Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, and now Floyd Mayweather. This is different though, this isn’t MMA. It’s a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather. While McGregor has enjoyed being a giant fish in a very small pond, he’s been released into the Atlantic Ocean now. It’s very hard to see how McGregor can pull this one off, but nothing has dented his confidence. Nate Diaz thinks it’s best for every fighter to not make any hard claims of who will win the mega-million dollar money boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Having fought the Irish MMA superstar twice and having one win and one loss on record with “The Notorious,” Diaz knows he is a game opponent. Although Mayweather’s team has hinted at trying to get Nate to walk out with Floyd for the fight on Saturday night, Nate’s roots are in mixed martial arts. However, in speaking on the “Against All Odds with Cousin Sal” podcast, Diaz says he isn’t picking any sides, but there is one player involved that he is not happy with.
