Conor McGregor and Coach React to Boxing Floyd Mayweather in 8oz Gloves

Justin Golightly - August 16, 2017

The mission has been accomplished. Floyd Mayweather played the system to get the gloves changed to a smaller size to push the betting lines, since he’s betting on himself. Conor McGregor gets the 8oz gloves to push the lore of his mystical and mutant power. All parties are happy, even McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh. In a statement released to The Mac Life, McGregor celebrates the change as his coach takes to Twitter with an excellent GIF choice. pic.twitter.com/l1TUV175Sm

The contracted weight for Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor‘s August 26 boxing match is 154 pounds. That said, neither man is likely to weigh exactly that much on fight night. Instead, McGregor is sure to be a little over, while Mayweather should tip the scales slightly below the fight’s 154-pound cap. The expected fight weights of both athletes were revealed by their representatives during Wednesday afternoon’s NAC meeting, during which the fight’s referee and judges were announced, and the long-awaited decision on glove size was also made.

Conor McGregor explains why he's not impressed by Canelo or GGG

Tom Taylor - August 16, 2017

On August 26, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring with undefeated pugilist Floyd Mayweather in a contest being hailed as “the biggest fight in combat sports history.” In the eyes of many boxing purists, though, it’s more of a freak show. In their eyes, the real super fight occurs on September 16, when Kazakh juggernaut Gennady Golovkin will step through the ropes to battle Mexican destroyer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. While this latter fight is the one that’s got diehard boxing fans most excited, however, it doesn’t really do much for McGregor. In fact, the Irish star finds both Canelo and ‘GGG’ pretty underwhelming.

Dana White: Paulie Malignaggi left Conor McGregor camp "for his health"

Tom Taylor - August 16, 2017

Paulie Malignaggi’s time as a part of Conor McGregor‘s training camp for Floyd Mayweather was brief. Just days into his work with McGregor, the former two-division boxing champ began feeling that he was being poorly portrayed by the Irish star and his entourage, and stormed out. At least, that’s the story Malignaggi has given. UFC President Dana White, who released some now infamous footage of McGregor dropping Malignaggi in a sparring session, offers a different telling of things. In his opinion, Malignaggi left team McGregor with his health in mind. In other words, he was being pieced up so badly in sparring that he left to spare himself from further punishment.

Ringside Doctors Caution That Glove Change for Mayweather vs. McGregor Could be Too Dangerous

Justin Golightly - August 15, 2017

Don’t worry guys, Conor McGregor will fight Floyd Mayweather in a couple of weeks and we can put this whole thing to rest. Well, until McGregor decides to give Paul Malignaggi and himself a mutual red panty night in the boxing ring. One of the latest things to swirl around in the chaotic either besides those wild knockdown clip takes, is the possibility that there will be a change in glove size for the May/Mac bout. The parties involved are supposed to meet tomorrow to see if the gloves will be 10oz or reduced to 8oz, but the Association of Ringside physicians caution against it. Eddie Alvarez: Conor McGregor's Time to Win is Within the First 4 Rounds

Justin Golightly - August 15, 2017

Despite his on-again-off-again success in the UFC, Eddie Alvarez is an exceptional fighter. That dude is the only guy to be both a Bellator and UFC lightweight champion. If you go further back, he’s beat the who’s who of anyone in his division from the soil of America to the shores of Japan in smaller promotions. Most of which were former champions in their own right. That’s how he became the king of the underground. If there’s one who knows Conor McGregor, it’s Alvarez. After causing Joey Diaz to have an aneurysm after he beat Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight belt, Alvarez lost it directly to McGregor in a flurry of super Sayain punches. You’d think that would make Eddie salty, but he thinks you’re a fool is you don’t think Conor McGregor can beat Floyd Mayweather.

UFC Fighters Pick the Winner of Mayweather vs. McGregor

Justin Golightly - August 15, 2017

It’s no secret what the public thinks of Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s boxing match. They’ll tell you every minute of every day on a myriad of social platforms. Some are fervently arguing McGregor’s power is just too mutant, others clap back with the fact that the best boxers on our planet couldn’t beat Mayweather, so how will McGregor do it? As with any war or conflict, some people just choose to remain conscientious observers. Surprisingly, the same goes for UFC fighters. The folks at MMA Crazy TV put together a collection of fighter prediction and some of them said some very interesting things. Most of them agree though, that it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Conor McGregor beats Mayweather. “Floyd’s not just a better boxer, but a smarter fighter, and he’s a championship level fighter. He’s obviously the better boxer, we look at it and we can see he’s the better boxer. But sometimes, being better isn’t enough, because Conor will hit him with some unpredictable stuff. Floyd’s never fought a switch stance fighter before, I think Conor sees that. Floyd’s never fought someone who can handle the clinch like that. Floyd’s fought power hitters before, but he’s never fought somebody with that type of movement, even that type of stance. If it was against any other boxer, I think Conor would stand a really great chance of winning.” — Kevin Lee on Mayweather vs. McGregor.

It seems that the new success in combat sports if to be flexible and chase the money wherever you can find it. That is, in between the chuckles. “If Conor was going to steal Floyd’s wallet, I don’t know if he could get it back on the street.” – Heather Hardy #TheMMAHour

Paulie Malignaggi's first reaction to footage: This does not look as obvious as I pictured it when it happened to me

Russell Ess - August 14, 2017

There was a big buzz late Friday when UFC President Dana White released video footage of the debated knock down/push down of Paulie Malignaggi. VIDEO | Does this slo-mo footage debunk Conor McGregor's knockdown of Paulie Malignaggi?

Tom Taylor - August 14, 2017

Over the last week, it seems that all anybody has been able to talk about is the knockdown Conor McGregor allegedly scored on former two-division boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi during a sparring session. This controversy erupted after UFC President Dana White shared footage – albeit a mere seconds of footage – that shows McGregor pelting Malignaggi with punches, and Malignaggi hitting the canvas. The footage has divided the combat sports world. There are those who believe that McGregor indeed did drop his accomplished foe, which would of course reflect well on his chances against Mayweather. There are those who believe the knockdown was really more of a push, and that the footage was too short to make any real deduction with.

Tom Taylor - August 13, 2017

In an effort to better prepare for his August 26 boxing match with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor enlisted the help of recently retired former two-division champ Paulie Malignaggi. Regrettably, the pair’s working relationship crumbled as quickly as it began, as Malignaggi left the camp after feeling disrespected by McGregor. Since Malignaggi’s departure, UFC President Dana White has released footage of McGregor dropping the boxer in a sparring session. While this footage would seem to confirm much of what McGregor suggested, Malignaggi remained on the defensive, alienating much of the combat sports world as he did.
