It happens every fight. We all have done it. He’s too fast, we say. The ground game will be his downfall. This guy will finally be the guy who beats Conor McGregor, the media writes. It’s happened through Dustin Poirier, Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, and now Floyd Mayweather. This is different though, this isn’t MMA. It’s a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather. While McGregor has enjoyed being a giant fish in a very small pond, he’s been released into the Atlantic Ocean now. It’s very hard to see how McGregor can pull this one off, but nothing has dented his confidence. Nate Diaz thinks it’s best for every fighter to not make any hard claims of who will win the mega-million dollar money boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Having fought the Irish MMA superstar twice and having one win and one loss on record with “The Notorious,” Diaz knows he is a game opponent. Although Mayweather’s team has hinted at trying to get Nate to walk out with Floyd for the fight on Saturday night, Nate’s roots are in mixed martial arts. However, in speaking on the “Against All Odds with Cousin Sal” podcast, Diaz says he isn’t picking any sides, but there is one player involved that he is not happy with.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor‘s upcoming boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is quite unprecedented. That said, it can be compared to a few other fights in the long and violent history of unarmed combat. One fight it is often compared to is Muhammed Ali’s 1976 battle with pro wrestler Antonio Inoki. Another it is compared to is boxer James Toney’s lone and disastrous mixed martial arts bout, which saw him abruptly tapped out by Randy Couture. In the opinion of UFC President Dana White, it’s also somewhat similar to former UFC light heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell’s sojourn into the PRIDE FC ring – unfamiliar territory for a fighter who’d cut his teeth in the cage.

If you heard that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor were fighting for the WBC “Money Belt” a month ago, you probably would have thought it was a joke. However, on Tuesday during the last press conference held for the mega-million dollar boxing match, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman showcased the diamond and jewel encrusted belt to be given to the winner on Saturday night. “The perfect title for this is a ‘money belt,’” Sulaiman told MMA Fighting. “We’re just proud to have a little bit of history for this event.”

This Saturday, UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to tangle with Floyd Mayweather Jr., an undefeated defensive mastermind and one of the best-ever in the long and bloody history of pugilism. For all of McGregor’s talent as a martial artist, he’s being given little chance against Mayweather under the boxing ruleset. There are however, some members of the combat sports community that believe the Irishman can pull it off. His fiercest rival, Nate Diaz, is a part of that group. With Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fighting in mere days, the guys over at Submission Radio got Bas Rutten on to talk about the historic event. El Guapo himself is rooting for McGregor all the way, and he thinks he can get the job done. Of course, we get treated to a tale from his past that relates to the situation. “Conor’s gonna knock him out within four rounds. That’s what I’m gonna say. I’m gonna stick with it. I want my corner with with Conor. And I know skills-wise [Mayweather is better], I know all that. Trust me, I’ve been fighting for a long time. You can call me an idiot, whatever they want. I’m just talking about all the mental aspects and everything there is. And if me committing to Conor is gonna give him a little bit of extra power mentally, so be it. I hope a lot of people are gonna do it because boy do I want to see Mayweather lose.”

It’s going to be hard for Conor McGregor to top his next fight, which will see him step into the boxing ring to battle Floyd Mayweather this Saturday. That said, the Irish MMA star is already looking to the future, where he’s certain other big opportunities await. “I’ve got another game that I must occupy also,” McGregor told the media on Wednesday of his fighting future. “The options are there. Multiple belts, multiple organizations, multiple styles… We’ll see what happens.”

Just when you thought there could not be a bigger story in combat sports during the fight week of Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor, Jon Jones was flagged by USADA. The news broke on Tuesday as Jones was flagged for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation after beating Daniel Cormier to win the UFC light heavyweight championship title at UFC 214. Jones’ potential violation is stemmed from an in-competition sample collected following his weigh-in on July 28. USADA has also been testing Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor for their multi-million dollar boxing match and have been testing them both extensively to try and catch any fighter trying to take an illegal advantage.

The biggest fight of entire existence needs a belt equal in mangnitde. Any other green-strapped belt won’t do, not even a big, gold UFC belt (or two) simply doesn’t do it justice. What about the rare diamond belt? No. The WBC has just revealed the most ridiculous and lavish belt any combat sport has ever seen. Just look at this insane treasure trove someone will get put around their waist on Saturday. “The WBC has created ‘The Money Belt’. The lights, the money, the celebrities, the fame, cars, and all the clothes. Conor McGregor is scooting around Vegas in a fire-spitting Lambo and a fleet of Rolls-Royces. He’s going to box the undisputed best boxer of our generation in just a couple of days. It’s hard to believe that his first UFC fight was only 4 years ago. Two titles in different weight classes and a fight with “Money” Mayweather later, and it’s even harder to imagine him coming from a modest life working as a plumber. Conor McGregor has strutted his way into the fight of the century with Floyd Mayweather. It has grown bigger and bigger until reaching a fever pitch this week. The Killers shot a music video, Demi Lovato will sing the National Anthem, and tons of celebrities will be in attendance at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. The fight is so big, fans can’t help but feel left out. With a steep $100 price tag on the pay-per-view, it’s just too rich for some people’s blood. Mayweather himself, however, has repeatedly assured that McGregor is, in fact, a very dangerous opponent.

If you’ve had your finger on the pulse of the fight game over the last few days, you’ve heard that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is worried that his Saturday night opponent, Conor McGregor, is going to miss the 154-pound limit for their bout. “Conor McGregor is extremely heavy right now,” Mayweather recently told FightHype. “I think he is 164, so he still has 10 pounds to go. Y’all get that extra money if he can’t make the weight, get those extra millions ready, Dana. Or the UFC, get them extra millions ready. Somebody gotta’ pay a fine, but he gotta’ get that weight down. A true champion is, like I said before, I true champion is disciplined and very responsible, but you know, we’ll see. I don’t think he’s gonna’ make the weight. Even if he do make the weight, that’s even better, but if he don’t make the weight, we still gonna fight. But it’s gonna’ be a be a heavy fine. The chaos that just broke out at Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s media day hasn’t settled down too much. Paul Malignaggi and McGregor just an an epic confrontation outside in the parking lot which almost came to blows. All the videos were loud, you could barely make out what anyone was saying, and it all came and went incredibly fast. Almost as fast as Malignaggi talks. After the situation dissolved, Ariel Helwani followed Paul Malignaggi and asked him to explain his side of the altercation. “I was trying to Audie’s [Attar, McGregor’s manager] attention ’cause I was trying to talk to Audie. Audie was saying I talked out of my contract, no I didn’t talk out of my contract. You guys posted up pictures, you force me to defend myself. I didn’t talk anything until you guys posted pictures. The pictures is what started talking. So, nobody talked out of the contract. You guys posted pictures first. If there were no pictures ever posted, I wouldn’t of needed to talk.”

Win or lose, Conor McGregor can probably do whatever he wants after he boxes Floyd Mayweather. He always has a home making money for the UFC. If he doesn’t lose too terribly to Mayweather, he can even box Paul Malignaggi. He even could step into a different type of ring and take up pro wrestling. Ronda Rousey didn’t earn any WWE championships, but she did get to execute a judo throw on Triple H while sharing the ring with The Rock. If she wanted to though, she could have probably taken over the pro wrestling world. Current WWE Intercontinental champion, The Miz thinks that McGregor has that type of potential as well. “I love the hype. Huge fan of hype. McGregor can talk the talk, he can walk the walk. But I think he’s going to come up a little short going up against Mayweather. Oh my God, he’d be great [in the WWE]. He’s a mouth, so absolutely. Why not? Sure [I’d wrestle McGregor]. All day. Knock him out in one punch.”

Take it as you may, but whether you like it or not, this isn’t the first time Conor McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has mentioned something about a “push” on social media. On Monday, Kavanagh posted a photo of himself with his back on the canvas wearing boxing gloves as “The Notorious” stood above looking down on the pioneer that helped put Irish MMA on the map.
