Conor McGregor predicted his current situation back in 2014

bjpenndotcom - November 15, 2016

Conor McGregor has grown famous for his ‘Mystic Mac’ predictions before fights. Ahead of his UFC 205 scrap with Eddie Alvarez this past weekend that saw McGregor pick up a 2nd round TKO win and claim the lightweight championship, McGregor predicted that he would finish Alvarez in the first round. Interestingly enough, not only did Mystic Mac predict that he would finish Alvarez despite the fact that only one man has been able to finish Alvarez throughout the course of his nearly 15 year professional MMA career, he actually predicted that he would win two belts in the UFC, and have shares in the UFC.

Conor McGregor is one hell of a fighter. If there was any doubt left in that regard, he erased it last Saturday, when he effortlessly knocked out lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes concurrently. In addition to his reputation as an incredible fighter, McGregor is also known as a brash and boundlessly confident personality. He’s developed this rep over the course of dozens of press conferences and post-fight interviews, throughout which he’s verbally pumped his own tires and slashed those of nearly every other fighter on the UFC roster.

Conor McGregor now wears the crown in two of the UFC’s most stacked divisions. He earned the first when he knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds last December. He earned the second last Saturday at UFC 205 in New York, when he levelled lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez with a gorgeous second-round combination. As the king of two divisions, McGregor now has a plethora of matchup options at his fingertips. He could rematch Aldo, who now wears the interim featherweight crown. He could take on the streaking Tony Ferguson, who recently extended his win-streak to nine with a win over Rafael Dos Anjos. Or, he could take on the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov, who improved his record to a sparkling 24-0 with a submission win over Michael Johnson on the UFC 205 undercard.

On Saturday night, the UFC touched down in glimmering New York City for the very first time. They did so with UFC 205, a stacked card headlined by a lightweight title fight between divisional king Eddie Alvarez and featherweight champ Conor McGregor. The bout marked McGregor’s opportunity to become the first fighter in UFC history to wear two UFC titles simultaneously, and in the end, he accomplished this feat with apparent effortlessness. After dropping his foe three times in the first round, he polished him off with a lightning-quick, four-punch combo in the second. Alvarez hit the deck, and McGregor had earned his place in the history books. UFC 205 also reset the record for the highest selling pay-per-view in UFC history – surpassing UFC 202, another McGregor helmed card, to do so. The card also set the live gate record for Madison Square Garden, which is an incredible feat considering the massive boxing matches, concerts, hockey games and basketball games that have occurred inside the hallowed venue. Like the PPV sale record that UFC 205 set, this accomplishment can be attributed to the incredible drawing power of McGregor.

On Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 205, UFC featherweight champ Conor McGregor knocked out lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously. Earlier that same night, UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley defended his title with a tooth-and-nail majority draw opposite Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. In the buildup to these two memorable fights, McGregor and Woodley had a number of tense encounters. They also had a pretty heated exchange on Twitter. Given that McGregor spent much of 2016 in Woodley’s welterweight division, where he went 1-1 across to bouts with Nate Diaz, his run-ins with Woodley immediately generated buzz about a potential fight between them.

UFC 205 was absolutely stacked. Though it was hurt by the last minute losses of a Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum welterweight bout and a Tim Kennedy vs. Rashad Evans middleweight bout, it still stood out as the most talent-rich card in UFC history. The lineup was topped by a lightweight title fight between divisional champ Eddie Alvarez and featherweight king Conor McGregor. Below this title fight were two others: a welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, and a strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The rest of the card, finally, was packed with big names like Yoel Romero, Chris Weidman, Miesha Tate, Raquel Pennington, Frankie Edgar, Jeremy Stephens, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Michael Johnson.
