UFC president Dana White was a recent guest on “ESPN Radio: Russillo & Kanell Today” where he announced that current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will return to the octagon at UFC 200 this July in Las Vegas. His words: “Yeah I was at his (Conor’s) house last night. He wants to fight again as soon as possible. He wants to jump back in there and he wants to fight again. We are working on who the opponent is going to be.”

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has gotten a lot of criticism after losing to Nate Diaz in their non-title welterweight bout at UFC 196. While McGregor was humble in his defeat and was an absolute professional in all the media obligations following the loss last weekend, fans could only wonder how “The Notorious” would be coping with the loss to Diaz.

The pair have exchanged verbal jabs on numerous occasions, which has even resulted in McGregor challenging Mayweather to a fight. While it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that a fight between the two men never materialized, what Floyd Mayweather has to say about Conor McGregor following McGregor’s loss at UFC 196 is quite surprising.

At UFC 196 fight fans witnessed Conor McGregor suffer the first loss of his UFC career at the hands of Nate Diaz. Following the fight, McGregor chalked the loss up to an inefficient use of energy, which resulted in him gassing early on in the fight. It’s no secret that McGregor packed on quite a bit of muscle ahead of the fight, which resulted in many questioning whether or not he would be as quick. With Rafael dos Anjos withdrawing from their UFC 196 lightweight title fight, McGregor ended up moving up to welterweight, an extra 15 pounds higher than the lightweight limit of 155 pounds.

If there is one thing that Conor McGregor has over Georges St-Pierre, it is his game attitude for the fight business. “The Notorious” gave Nate Diaz the biggest payday of his career in a fight two weight classes above what he has fought at while in the UFC going from 145 pounds to 170 pounds. Dana White says Conor McGregor deserves a lot of praise for his ballsy attitude and not shying away from a big fight fans want to see.

Prior to UFC 196, Conor McGregor revealed that he committed to a fight at UFC 200, however no opponent was named. There was speculation that McGregor could face welterweight champion Robbie Lawler if he were to defeat Diaz at UFC 196. As the world knows by now, in the main event of UFC 196, McGregor was rocked and then submitted by Nate Diaz in the second round of their welterweight scrap. In the wake of McGregor’s loss to Diaz, SBG head coach John Kavanagh spoke on The MMA Hour to discuss potential opponents for McGregor at UFC 200.

In the main event of UFC 196 this past Saturday, fans saw Conor McGregor lose for the first time under the UFC banner, ending his 15 fight win streak. Of course, the bout took place at welterweight, 25 pounds higher than featherweight, where McGregor reigns champion. With that being said, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen believes McGregor’s performance at UFC 196 parallels Mike Tyson’s performance against Evander Holyfield.
