Cris Cyborg has an exciting idea for her next opponent after Tony Evinger

Tom Taylor - July 16, 2017

On July 29, in the first of the three title fights on the stacked UFC 214 bill, destructive featherweight star Cris “Cyborg” Justino will collide with reigning Invicta bantamweight queen Tonya Evinger for the vacant UFC women’s featherweight title. While a Cyborg victory is certainly not a sure thing, many fans expect her to win this fight and kickstart her long-awaited reign as UFC featherweight queen. The UFC women’s featherweight division division, of course, is extremely thin on talent. As such, it’s hard to imagine who might be next for the winner of Cyborg and Evinger. Yet while there aren’t a ton of interesting options to pick from, Cyborg does have one interesting idea: former UFC women’s bantamweight queen Holly Holm.

Dana White admits the UFC needed to right wrongs in regards to Cris Cyborg relationship

bjpenndotcom - June 30, 2017

When Cris Cyborg made her UFC debut in May of 2016, she did so at 140 pounds in a catchweight fight against Leslie Smith. At that time, the UFC had yet to create a women’s featherweight division, and Cyborg was adamant that she wouldn’t be able to make the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds. After running through Smith in under 90 seconds, Cyborg then fought Lina Lansberg in a highly anticipated showdown in Brazil. On the heels of Cyborg going 2-0 inside the Octagon, the UFC announced that they were creating a women’s featherweight division. Unfortunately for Cyborg, at that time she was suspended by USADA as a result of a pill she took to help her recover from the brutal weight cut leading up to the Lansberg fight.

Cris "Cyborg" Justino roasts Tony Ferguson on Twitter after steroid comment

Tom Taylor - June 29, 2017

Early this morning, upcoming UFC featherweight title challenger Cris “Cyborg” Justino posted an innocent sponsor video to her Twitter account. For whatever reason, this video prompted UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson – who has almost no association with Cyborg – to accuse her of using steroids. I had no idea how much harder the @VersaClimber became with @Tc1Gel warming my body up during the workout! #ufc214 #cyborgnation July 29 pic.twitter.com/9pwtftYL8f

Evinger then stepped in to fight Cris Cyborg for the vacant title, and while the fight community is still processing that fight, Cyborg believes that a fight with Evinger will actually be more thrilling than one with Megan Anderson.

Cyborg: "It was a new excuse everyday" with Germaine de Randamie

Tom Taylor - June 22, 2017

Back in February, Germaine de Randamie scored a narrow decision over Holly Holm to become the UFC’s first-ever women’s featherweight champion. The expectation from there was that she would attempt to defend her title against the division’s consensus best fighter, Cris “Cyborg” Justino. Unfortunately, de Randamie went radio silent for some time, and ultimately refused to fight Cyborg outright, calling the Brazilian star a cheater and saying she didn’t belong the UFC.

Back in February, Germaine de Randamie and Holly Holm collided to crown the UFC’s first-ever women’s featherweight champion. Though there was a definite asterisk attached to this title fight due to the fact that it did not involve Cris “Cyborg” Justino – the division’s consensus best fighter – it was an exciting time for women’s MMA all the same. Unfortunately, the trouble for the new women’s featherweight division began almost immediately, as this inaugural title fight oozed with controversy.
